Anyone know of a big Walmart near New York. We will be having a car one day as the men want to go to some bike shop a little way out of Manhatten.

I checked it out on the Walmart site and I think it said it was about 5 miles away - not sure where though.
I did note that there is the largest KMart in America quite central in New York - Anyone been to that one?

We were there in January and it was dead easy to get to and from. The store is located at SECAUCUS MEADOWS which is in New Jersey, across the East River (under the Lincoln Tunnel to be correct!)
Easiest and cheapest way to get there is by NJ Transit Bus No 320 with the desitination MILL CREEK. Just go to to the Port Authority (Bus Station) and buy a return ticket at the NJ Transit counter. Buses are very frequent (every 10 to 15 mins) and the journey takes about 15 mins (traffic permitting). They drop you at a bus stop just by the Sam's Club / Walmart car park and you get the bus back from the same stop. There is a McD's inside the Walmart as well. We went on a sunday morning (it opens at 10am) and had a great time. If you go during the week avoid early morning as the 320 bus also serves a huge park and ride facility and will likely be very busy with commuters. On the sunday, we virtually had the bus to ourselves.
Secaucus Meadows appeared to be a huge complex of hotels, restaurants and shops. Unfortunately, Walmart is just a little too detached from the others, although I understand that there is some
trolley / shuttle bus which links them together.

Much as I absolutely love Walmarts, I don't think I will have time in the 5 days to visit it.
If you have a car and going to Secaucus for Walmart then you must go to the ORIGINAL and REAL outlets in Secaucus. These are a bit spread out and are in the vendor's distribution warehouses. The cargo ships unload there and items stored in huge warehouses before being shipped to the rest of the country. Now they are not all pretty like prime outlets but worth a visit.
And also there is no sales tax on clothes and shoes in NJ.
