Hoop de doo seems to get better reviews. We went last year and enjoyed our evening, food is palatable and there is plenty of alcohol if you want it( We were up early the next day).

We had to wait in a long line to enter hall so i would be prepared for this and if it is hot take a drink with you or turn up just prior to your show(They will tell you to be there early but your table is reserved for you)

I'm glad we did it but would not return, I think it is expensive for what they charge and because there are a few shows a night you do feel slightly rushed.

Some people do it every year and it is different and a change to just sitting down for an evening meal.

Have not done BBQ but it seems to be more geared to younger children :)

We did Mickey's Backyard BBQ. When we arrived there was a lot of faffing about. We had our reservation number and so headed over to where the BBQ was being held, but we had not collected our ticket (we had not been told we needed a ticket), thus had to walk all the way back to the front desk, then stand in queue with all the others who did not know they had to pick up a ticket. Then we had to stand and wait till Mickey, Minnie and the others came and called us in to dinner. It was all benches, certainly there was plenty to drink and eat, however it does feel like a sudden rush of people going to eat. Getting pictures with characters could be difficult as they often just passed some tables and spent ages with others. The music/entertainment felt a little bit like 'butlins'. In saying all that we did enjoy it, but not sure if we would pay for it as we were on the free ddp. We are hoping to try Hoop De Doo next time.

We went to Mickeys BBQ last year and had a wonderful time.

The children throughly enjoyed it and i thought the food and drinks were reasonable too.

I have to say we'd agree with the above, we did book early in our stay and the kids were suffering with jetlag so they were really tired and wanted to come home early. For us it was too much money for what we got out of it. However, DH & I went there on our own before kids and had a fab night.

Hoop de doo is a little more restricted as you watch the show rather than take part ,unless you're picked out. Out of the 2 I'd say BBQ is the better choice. Always worth doing the once.

If you're driving it does take a while to get to either one, once you park up at Fort Wilderness you then have to take a bus to the campground and no-one seemed to know which bus to take or where to get off. I'd recommend you park at TTC and catch the boat over from MK :d: .

Have done both, it depends how old your children are, (if your taking them) young ones would probably prefer Mickeys BBQ, but older children, 12 and upwards would probably prefer Hoop Dee Doo. We took my cousin to both (different years,) she was 11 the first time, (hoop dee doo) and 13 the second time Mickeys BBQ, probably did it the wrong way around, but she thoroughly enjoyed both shows, in my opinion anyway. Have fun whichever you decide

did the BBQ last year and had a fab time, more for the young at heart though, but it is Disney after all.

Have to agree with this.:thumbs-up

We thought it was just ok. But the kids didn't really get into it. I can't really explain it to be honest but we left early and were pleased that we didn't pay for it (free DDP). We wouldn't bother with it again.

But everyone is different, others really enjoy it.

We've done both and loved both! We did the barbeque a couple of years ago and my kids absolutely loved it - they spent all the time they could dancing with the characters and generally having a whale of a time, thought they might be dissapointed with Hoop de Doo last year but they loved that as well - i was abit worried about audience participation  but it was not done in a 'humiliating' way at all - just good fun.

We will probably end up doing both next time as we won't know which one to choose!

Thanks for all your replies, will take them onboard.
Looks like the BBQ is the most likely as it seems to be the best choice for the girls who will be 11 and 4 when we make our next trip...once again thanks
