Hmmm....have you got a cd/dvd in the drive? If so it may mean the PC is trying to read it? Or, if you're using Vista, the design of the "busy" cursor looks like an arrow with a spinning circle by the side.
Of course, to clear it, you could do what every other helpdesk in the world would advise you to do....
Reboot!!

Is it possible that something has been jammed into the cd/dvd rom drive, causing the PC to try and read whatever you think was in there?
I would recommend a reboot, and see if the machine is feeling better after that.

Have you tried shutting down the PC then restarting it.

I've heard of this problem, or something similar, caused by secuROM copyright protection software from Sony. It's a bug.
Its often installed when you install a game from CD/DVD.
A bit of info here from wikipedia

Maybe google it to see if it's the problem.

Thanks for help. Probably the biggest problem is me. I'm finding it very difficult using Vista-all seems so complicated. I'm wondering now if something was trying to launch and is looking for a disc? I've never even inserted a cd into this machine (its a new present). I've now tried inserting a cd and can't even get that to work   :confused2

Was thinking about doing that. Problem is it was bought from Tesco-its a Samsung R60plus. Now wondering if Tesco will be able to do very much or whether I should try computer repair shop-any suggestions gratefuly received. :o:
