Hi, all.
I've been around for a while (see my trippie below), but my 4-year old son has recently been diagnosed autistic.

This now puts a different perspective on some of the events in our WDW trip ...

Just commenting that this forum in particular (and the DIBB as a whole) is a great resource for parents in my situation - the information is truly appreciated (and will be used - there is an outside chance of a short-notice 1 week trip to Orlando for us all in a couple of months  - but don't tell anyone, as I don't want to hex it :) )

Hi Andy
Sometimes it is easy to see things when you look at them retrospectively! We felt that way with our DD (11) who was diagnosed with aspergers last year! Their was some behaviour that could be explained by her condition we just didn't know it!

That's so true.

Hopefully armed with lots of information (both at home and on holiday) you can help your DS cope and deal with the things he will find challenging. We had to fit our trips around DS and DD's needs and can't hit the parks full on like most people but I can honestly say we've had some of our best family experiences in Florida.

This is a great forum with a lot of parents of ASD children so ask away if there is any thing you can think of that would help :wavey:

Thanks, mazz - our local Child Development Centre (at Hillingdon Hospital) have been excellent. They gave us the pack at the diagnosis and were very supportive - but thanks for your steer anyway.

It's nowhere near as bad as I'd have imagined - we're still going through life towards similar destinations: its just that the route has changed somewhat. :)

Hi there,

This forum is a fab place for all advice.

My 9 year old son was diagnosed with ASD when he had just turned 3.
Wasn't a surprise, we already knew before the diagnosis confirmed it.

This will be our sons first trip to WDW, but he has been to DLP 6 times and loves it. So hoping he's going to have a fab time in Florida too.

This book has a lot of helpful info for special needs at WDW -- Cubby has mobility issues so we have it -- including autism and related things.
