Games over here will not work on the american wii. They are region coded. mil brought back 2 games for ds and they did not work, however all the accesories do, she brought back 2 wireless remotes that work fine.

As long as your TV has been bought in the last 5 years or so you shouldn't have a problem as they will be able to display NTSC, also google "Wii Freeloader by Datel" and that will sort out the region coding without the need to get it chipped which opens up a whole new set if problems if you go down that route (just google banned chipped xbox 360) , the 2 problems you will have, 1 of which has been mentioned before is the Warranty, although ive had an American DS go wrong and Nintendo UK still repaired it for me free of charge, and the other is the voltage issue, a step-down converter will be required, as im pretty sure the wii is not duel voltage.

The only possible problem with the Datel freeloader disc, is that it could be made useless by a software update from Nintendo. I know Datel have said that they will work anyway, but from what I've read Nintendo want to make it so they cannot be used.

Chipping your Wii also runs the risk of a Nintendo update turning your Wii into a brick (obviously if you have your Wii connected the network etc.)
It a chance you take - Chipping opens up a whole world of playing back-up copies (of original games you have bought of course :) ) and import titles.

Sorry to jump in with another question but, if you had a chipped xbox 360 does that mean it will play American games. My son would love to spend all his money on games but I'm scared they wont work and I don't understand the region free stuff!
Any advice would be great i'm completely clueless!

I've heard good things about the Freeloader (which is about £9.99 delivered) it works fine and as long as you don't run the firmware updates on your Wii you should have no problems.
Datel also claim they will send a replacement disc should it become obsolete which will work with the newer firmware (something they have done before).
Its the cheapest and easiest solution if you wish to import games.

If your son wants to play online then dont chip his Xbox 360 as microsoft somehow know and banned the console from ever being online again!

And the Datel Disc does let you update the wii software, all it does is by passes the Disc upgrades and plays just the gamefile on the disc.
With the 360, PS3 and Wii all capable of receiving updates via the internet, I'd be vary wary about chipping and/or disks like Freeloader - the risk of rendering an expensive piece of hardware is to high for my liking. It's not as if I'm afraid of getting my hands dirty; I've had chipped X-Boxes for media centres, R4's, modded PS2/PSP consoles and I overclock my main PC rig to within an a volt of destruction -but I just couldn't face turning my new console into a brick.

The wii updates can come on a game disc aswell. An example was Mario Galaxy, that had installed an update the first time I put the disc in.

Hi, as far as I'm aware it's not illegal to chip/add memory to an xbox just to use chipped games, which he wont be. Could be wrong though!

this process is bypassed by the freeloader, I have Super smash brothers, US version which has a update on, but using the freeloader it didnt ask me to update and it plays perfectly fine.

With Regards to this i dont know the legallity of it, all i know is that even if an original game is being played on Xbox live the console will still get banned
Now a bit confused (doesnt take much)
I have a PAL Wii (not chipped or anything) and a TV that will show NTSC format, will games bought in the USA work on my system?
Cheers
