As hard as I try I can't imagine Florida being the same if I ever see the French Disney, I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Thats very expensive. Who is that with?

We have never paid more than £500 for 2 adults and 2 children staying onsite with park tickets and breakfast for 5 days.:thumbs-up

Bargains are there if you look in the right place. We always book direct with Disney, always been the cheapest option for us.

The cheapest way ive found to do EuroDisney (and, TBH, i just cant bring myself to do it :erm: ) is to fly Easyjet from either Luton or Stanstead (cant remember which one it is, sorry) to CDG, then stay in one of the off-site hotels, like Holiday Inn or Explorers, which still do shuttles for the parks.
5 days at the end of March came in at around £600 total for 2 adults, however, i priced that away back in November, so prices are liable to have changed slightly.

Hope this helps :)

When we've done it we've flown Jet2 from Leeds Bradford, and stayed at either Sequoia Lodge (twice) and the Santa Fe (last time we were there).

I hated the Santa Fe, the food court didn't sell anything I liked and it was a lot noisier/busier than the lodge.

We've generally paid about £500-£600 for 3/4 nights in the hotel with park entry included and the last time we flew I managed to get return tickets for £79 for both of us (bargain).

Or have you looked at self drive ? its an easy drive from Calais to DLP

DLP is not the cheap option for Disney.

I've been 7 times now, we've spent the last 3 Christmas's there. We have only ever been during school holiday time, so always pay top prices.

Last Christmas we only went for 3 nights, cost us £1100 for 5 of us.
I worked out, it would cost us around the same to go to DLP for 7 nights as it would to go to Florida.

So, we're taking the kids to Florida this Christmas. At least we'll be guaranteed temperatures above -3 deg. :)

just had a quote for self drive staying at sante fe £498 hotel and 2 day park tickets, child goes free into the parks, plus driving over will cost around £150+ in petrol if not more.....

ALL for 2 nights ? WOW

We went a couple of times for £124 each.....that included getting there and 3 nights with passes at the Sante Fe......cheap....lol but the downside.....we went by bus all the way from Scotland.....it wasn't too bad really apart from the sore bum

I know DLP isn't cheap (been there a few time too) but are you, and the others in this thread, really comparing the same package?

For a start off, the DLP prices usually include park tickets. That alone for 5 of you going to WDW would be many hundreds of pounds.

10:00 Depart London St Pancras

Found this on eurostar.co.uk - book the hotel and eurostar together. Makes it a bit cheaper, but it is expensive. You can search to get the direct trains, but the cheaper ones have 1 connection.
Another alternative is to book eurostar to Paris, and then get a private transfer to the hotel. We did this last year and cost us E50 one way - that's for as many people as can fit in the mini-bus.

Arrive London St Pancras 19:03 Thu 17-Apr

Just to let you know, that is Easter holidays for some parts of England. The schools in the North East are off week beginning 7th & 14th April. Maybe thats why the prices are up And thats why we will be in sunny Florida then, I'm so excited.

It is an excellent point and one which many seem to forget when they are comparing the cost. My tickets for Florida alone would cost me over double the whole cost of my DLP trips.

we are going DLRP in October half term and it is costing £810 for 3 nights which some people think is a lot however I think is good as it includes flights, hotel, breakfast, airport transfers and 4 days park hopper.

I priced up WDW for 7 nights during half term and it would of cost us £2500 us not including park tickets or breakfast. WDW may work out better value for money on a day to day bases however I can't afford over £3500 that it would cost for just a week. escpially as we are already going to WDW this year.

Taking in account the traveling times we will only be getting two days more anyway.

Having a look on the DLP website, it appears to be the train fare that bump[s the price up to silly money. I got a quote of £398 for the Cheyenne without transport, and then it went to over £800 with the train. I would have thought you could get to DLP for less than £400 - that seems an awful lot.

Could you fly from East Midlands - 272.64 (assuming DD is over 2 and has to be paid for)

I can fully understand people wanting to visit France as I love it there but to go for Disney? It's like visiting a Michelin restaurant and asking for a chip butty ... which is the kind of thing I'd be tempted to do as I hate poncy food ... but I'd go to France for France and not an imitation of Florida.

I'm sorry Elsie but its that sort of attitude that really gets my back up.:nonono: I am not the sort of person to get heated on this forum as its my happy place but I am sick to death of people sl*gging DLP off.

I understand some don't like it and thats fine. But there are those of us that love it and enjoy visiting there and we are intelligent enough not to compare it to Florida.
We enjoy it for what it is, a great short break destination with the added bonus of Disney. Its not Florida and it doesn't try to be.

We have had the most wonderful character interaction in Paris even better than Florida and some of the rides are simpy superior to their WDW counterparts.

Have you actually been to DLP?

I think I will shut up now as I don't think I have ever felt the need to get into an argument on the Dibb but I get so fed up with the same comments from the same people on the same bl**dy subject.:nonono:

I will no doubt end up apologising for this mini rant as its really not in my nature on here. But I have had a cr*p night and this was the last straw!!

I thought easter hols was good friday onwards ?

Some schools have decided to change their hols this year because Easter is so early. Some schools are having Good Fri-Easter Mon off, then back in for a week or so, then off for 2 wks later on in april.

As far as I'm aware, it's mainly towards the Sussex area that they are doing this, but it may be more widespread that I thought!

Just a Q, have you got any tesco clubcard points saved up that you could change for airmiles? If so, you could use them to help pay for Eurostar or flights.
We have done just that for August 24-27th, we've paid £500 for 3 nights, 4 days in Hotel Cheyenne (through members fayres with airmiles), then used ouir Airmiles to pay outright for our flights.
I am a teacher, so can't go mid-term, so that is in the Summer hols, and is for me, DP and our soon to be 3yr old monkey, Hollie.

PS: Hear hear Leanne!!!!! :thumbs-up

I'm afraid I'm with Leanne on this - DLP isn't an imitiation its something different.

If DLP wasn't in France, I wouldn't have been to the country three times, hate the place. Still each to their own.

Have you actually been to DLP?
Nope and I won't go either. As I said, I like France for what it is and although 'spoil' is too strong a word, if I went to Euro Disney I'd feel the trip wouldn't be right. I love Florida by I'm not (queue gasps of shock) a be-all / end-all WDW fan like others are. As long as it's not Epcot  I like the Floridian WDW parks and I simply don't see the point in an expensive visit to imitation park(s) in France.

For us, it's the same with UK theme parks . Once you've been to Orlando, other parks like Alton Towers & Drayton Manor (both within 90 mins of here), just don't cut the mustard. We don't go as they're expensive for what they offer and they just don't compare to Orlando. In fact, we haven't been to a UK theme park in more than 8 years; we'd rather save up and go for the real deal in Florida.

I'm happy that you and others want to go to Euro Disney - it's just not something that we'll ever do.

Nope and I won't go either.

Well I think that pretty much speaks for itself.
With regards to your Epcot comment, thats fair enough. I don't agree with you as I love Epcot but at least you have actually visited Epcot and are therefore able to comment.

But I fail to see how you can comment so negatively with regards to DLP when you have no experience of the place. I don't feel thats particularly fair.

Don't knock it till you try it, thats the saying I believe.

IMO The Disneyland Paris Park is actually much better than Magic Kingdom. To me MK lacks the great theming that the Disneyland Paris Park has

I love both DLRP and WDW, and enjoy the different holidays I have at both.

Nope and I won't go either.

I'm gobsmacked you could make such ill- (in fact non-) informed comments about somewhere that you've never been to.

I'm not (queue gasps of shock) a be-all / end-all WDW fan like others are.

I think you might be in the wrong place then.

we'd rather save up and go for the real deal in Florida.

Is that the "real deal"? Surely DisneyLand California is the real deal.

Bear in mind that a lot of Americans hate Disney and would be as horrified about visitors thinking that WDW represents America as you are that people think DLP represents France.

Elsie
11 Mar 08, 11:06 AM
Er ... so if I haven't been somewhere or done something then I have no right to have an opinion as to whether or not I'd want to go or even like it? Not even after reading books (Brits Guides), speaking to friends that have been (4 Euros an ice cream?!), numerous newspaper articles, watching videos or examining other peoples opinions / trip reports on web sites like this one?

I've not been to Iraq / climbed Everest / parachuted out of a plane but I'm pretty sure I don't want to go there or do those things - or am I not allowed to have an opinion or be able to state my views on such matters as I've not actually done them?

I've never once stated that WDW represents America or its people or that DLP does the French. My opinion is that if you want Disney parks, those in America offer better value and climate over it's European counterpart. I love going to Florida for the American experience; I don't go simply for Disney. We visit the WDW parks and enjoy what they have to offer but they're not the soul purpose of our trip; they're just something to do whilst we're there. I also love France, its people and culture but I wouldn't visit Euro Disney. If I want to go to a Disney theme park I'll go (and would advise others) to visit America.

I think you have missed the point. It is one thing not to want to visit yourself. You are entitled to that opinion and no-one is saying you should go.
But posting negative comments on a place that you have never visited and are not likely to visit is wrong.

I have no desire to visit Germany/China/Russia for example. No real reason for it. But I would never come on here and write negative things about these places as I have no experience of them and are therefore not qualified to comment.

What about the Japanese, and the Chinese - can they not go to their local DisneyLand either?

You really should go to DLP - it's *very* French. In fact that's the main complaint about it - people go and expect it to be just like WDW but it's not at all.

It would probably be impossible for you to go with an open mind though - you've already made up your mind based in what other people have told you.

Ok deep breaths everyone, I don't want to have to close this thread.

Going back to prices and school holidays, our so called easter holiday, isn't until 2 weeks after Easter, it starts on 6th April-20th April. We are nowhere near Sussex! I was under the impression it was countrywide, but it seems to depend on region.

And for the record, we also enjoyed our break at DLP, it's not DisneyWorld but its good in it's own way.

There was probably only 1 main park then so 5 nights was way too long, unless you were doing other stuff.
