Hi
Ive read several posts on dibb about the rope drop at MK, but still not sure what it actually is or when it happens. Looking for something extra to do on our next holiday and this could be it.
Thanks

Rope drop is what happens when the parks open.
Although you may be let through the gates, you are kept away from the attractions until official opening time, and you are held by a rope.
Even if you go for an early character breakfast, you are not allowed into some of the other areas until "the rope drops".
The rope drop is not exactly as it sounds, you can get up to the main hub by the castle, where you will find the entrances to each land roped off.
At the park opening times cast members remove the rope and will walk through the lands and you must walk behind them.
This has stopped the frenzied like running of the park guests to their favourite attractions ;)

'Rope drop' does sound very intriguing to a first timer but I'm afraid it's nothing other than queue control!
I quite like the rope drop too. Saves you getting trampled on!!
I've only been at quiet times and it does the trick.

The rope drop at MK is something NOT to be missed, we went to see it last year and you wait by the entrance, its really just an official opening to the park, but its so cool!!!
Get there 15 mins before the park opens and wait by the entrance, then a family will get chosen to open the park, Mickey and all his friends arrive on the train and wave to everyone, then theres singing and dancing and loads of confetti is blasted all over your head (well little bits of mickey shaped heads!!) then everyone is let in after the Rope has dropped,
It really is something not to be missed and i will definatly be at MK for the rope drop this year, it starts your day off in true disney style!!! :spin:

I always get there for the opening of MK!!! I LOVE it! It was my fiances first time and first day in Disney back on our Florida holiday and within minutes he had gone from being a "typical man" to jumping up and down waving at the characters - lol! Its sooo exciting! :) xx

If you get to the park early it is also one of the best times to try and get photos without a lot of people in them other than your family. I've gotten some great castle pictures this way.
Also, if you are a tinkerbell fan you should go straight to her shop (Tinkerbells Treasures). If you are the first in the store they will let you wake tinerkbell up. They'll give you a wand to use and they'll tell you a special verse to say. They wave the wand, the box lights up and then lights twinkle around the store. They will give the child a special certificate for a keepsake.
If you miss the opportunity have your child look into the keyhole of the dresser in the shop. Tinkerbell is known to be sleeping there!

I've been to Disney 8 times and I have never heard of this!!! I can't wait for August 2009 when I will be dragging my daughter out of bed to see this phenomenon -

We only did it the once - but it was sooooooooooo worth the early start for! It was also so worth while being in MK at that time in order to get on the attractions. It was also this day we won our dream fastpasses, that were given to the first so many on the Pooh Bear ride, so wouldn't have got that either if we hadn't forced ourselves up and out! Go for it!

We have had some great openings at MK. The first year we ever went in 1997 our son (aged 7) was chosen to be gate keeper and open the park. That was real special (they tend to ask a complete family now a days - which is lovely).
Last year we were all clustered underneath the the train station and given handfulls of pixie dust to throw in the air on opening ( to 'when you wish upon a star'); Well that made me cry again.
The real rope dops are at the entrance points to the various lands such as the bridge by the entrance to frontierland. As you wait behind the rope here, the cast members have a chat and friendly warning " no running" and as soon as they get the command we all start walking forward with about 30 people behind the rope. The pace quickens the trainers are moving faster, the ropes released and the mad few make the final sprint to splash mountain or big thunder.Hopefully to be the first riders which is totally mad and irrational but amazing. We have been first a few times and received last year a few special freebies. :)
Rope drop at DLP is just a giant stampede and not well policed.Quite scary really.
