Hi

Just wondering what the weather will be like the last two weeks of June on west coast (LV, LA, SF, SD etc)?

I'm thinking of booking but torn between this and Florida :confused2

I did the west coast about 10 years ago with my parents, but really can't remember much about it now.

It'll be me, DH, DS (10) and DD (6). Will there be much for them to do in Vegas and San Fran? I know there's Disney, Universal, Sea World and loads of other things to do, but I'm a little concerned that they'll be a little bored

We do Florida every year and I think it's time for a change, but don't want to spend a fortune on a holiday that they're not going to enjoy.

We're planning on doing 18 nights and driving between everywhere we stay, do you think they'll be ok for the long drives?

Sorry so many questions, but I thought it was about time I pulled my finger out seen as we're planning on going in 3 months :nonono:

Thanks all

Well, I won't be much help, as last time I visited the west coast was in '93 in October ! But I've chosen our California trip over Florida for the same reasons as you ( but can't help wondering if we should have booked orlando instead ;) )
From the guide books and tripadvisor ( great site for sightseeing ideas ) I am guessing the weather in june will be hot in LV, warm/hot in L.A , warm/murky in SD and cold at just about anytime of year in SF ! :d: I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong.
My boys will be a bit older than yours - 12 and 9, but I've found plenty to keep us occupied - Cablecars, bike the bridge and Alcatraz in SF, disney/knotts berry farm and soak city in Anaheim, Zoo, SW and old town trollet tour in SD, and I did research LV before we decided we didn't have time - they have a 'star trek' experience, if your boys are into that, you can do a trek around redrock canyon and wandering around the hotels will take up enough time.
Can't help with the driving, we won't be having a car, but check out airfares for some of the longer distances - I can't believe how cheap some of them are, and it would save you some time, also the Amtrak between SD and Anaheim.
I'm sure you'll get more suggestions from more recent visitors.

The weather in Anaheim in June will be lovely, it will be warm, but not humid, but the evenings do get a little cooler. Las Vegas will be hotter but still warm at nights. I have never been to SF so can't comment on there.
You have Disneyland and California Adventure in Anaheim and Knotts Berry Farm and you also have Universal Hollywood which is very different to Orlando.
San Diego has the Zoo and Seaworld and you could take a day trip to Mexico as well.
You can go to Huntington Beach which is a well known surfers beach or visit Newport Beach where you will recognise places from The OC.
Vegas has all the hotels that you can look around, they have baby lions in the MGM which are great to watch. Theres a big Coca Cola shop and a massive M&M's shop, which are great to look round. You have the Adventure Dome at Circus Circus hotel and you can take a trip to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam.
Theres also Roy and Siegfrieds Secret Garden at the Mirage hotel where they have white lions and white tigers and also dolphins which are not made to perform. Its so peaceful and beautiful in there, you would never know you were in the middle of The Strip.

Weather wise June in San Francisco is not the ideal time to visit, but it is such a great city, visiting anytime is essential to any Californian itinerary. It will probably be pretty cool with lingering fog, but once the sun gets through it, it will be fine. Just take an extra layer for the SF part.

Anaheim will be glorious, not too hot but definitely t-shirts and shorts and San Diego also.

Vegas will be scorching, but as it is air conditioning central at the best (or worst depending on your outlook) of times, there is respite in any hotel/shop etc.

do both thats what we did last year couldnt bear the though of being in US and not going to Florida we did 4 days in vegas then drove to LA stayed 4 days there doing universal, hollywood, venice beach (which for me was disappointing as whenever you see venice beach on tv its full of muscular toned young men well when we went their was one old man of about 70 i was gutted  DH though it was hilarious :d: :d: :d: )
then we took internal flight from LA to orlando cost about £100 each then stayed in villa for 1 week then flew to Washington for 4 days and then home it was wonderfull.

I wouldn't recommend Vegas with kids - other people might say different but it was far too 'seedy' for me to think about taking my DD I'm afraid. It's also very much and 'adult' place and the main focus is gambling but kids aren't even allowed to stand and watch their parents playing the machines etc they have to walk stright through any casinos.

We did California in 2006 with our DD who was 6 at the time - check out our trip report - link in my sgnature below! - for some idea of what she (and WE) enjoyed doing!

HTH

ETA: We went in November so i can't comment on the weather issue. There IS a lot of driving involved but we actually found the holiday cheaper than the last 2 trips to Florida! To be honest we're planning to go back next October time (2009) as we asked our DD if she wanted to do Florida again or California and she said California!!!!

We were there in 2006 with a 16 year old, 13 year old, 9 year old and 7 year old and there are people standing on the streets giving out "girlie" cards but only to men, the younger kids dont even know what they are.
If you are not planning on gambling, then the casinos are not a problem as you just walk through them.

SF will be chilly at night and probably foggy. LA will (in all likelihood) be blisteringly hot apart from near the coast. Not sure about the other places.

Thanks for the replies guys and galls :)

Think I'm just going to book it or it'll be June and still not going anywhere!!

If all else fails, I'll just spend my time in LA chasing Britney around with the Paps :pgig:

Las Vegas in June......100 F daytime (in the sun, feels like 130 F, 90 F evenings), you might want to bring a light jumper - lol

I've never been but top of my list would be Six Flags Magic Mining in LA - that park looks absolutely fantastic! :D

Six Flags is great with arguably the best coaster in the world (imo of course! http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/coasters/reviews/x/) - there are some really funny videos of people on it on YouTube, but the language is a little raw for me to post here :)

X is the most amazing thing I have ever ridden, and now they are refurbing it to come back as X2, which looks even madder.

Cannot wait to get out there and try it and Tatsu which has opened since I was last there
