If you just need to open it and look at it and print then you need to download the viewer

from microsoft this is word 2003 (http://http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=95E24C87-8732-48D5-8689-AB826E7B8FDF&displaylang=en)

You will then be able to look at it similar to viewing pdf docs

Download OpenOffice.

It is an open source (FREE) office package that will open all word/excel/access/powerpoint documents and you will find it almost the same to use as M$ office.

In my opinion OpenOffice is better than Microsoft Office anyway, I have to use MS Office at work and I don't like it, it's too intuitive for my liking.

OpenOffice is decent, but a lot of hassle if you're just trying to work with one document.

If you have a google account you can upload a Word doc to Google docs. It will automatically convert and store it online for you. Much easier. Read here:

Why not just download Open Office and use it as your standard word processor from now on? You won't get much better for free, honest, and it does pretty much everything that Word does. You'll also get the rest of the suite free too of course (spreadsheet, database, etc)

It will do everything you need, it is a full blown office suit, just because it's free doesn't mean to say it's no good. It is perfectly safe to download.

As a matter of interest there are a lot of commercial companies in the world using OpenOffice because of the cost savings by not using Microsoft products.
