View Full Version : A DECENT Chinese Restaurant Please...

My campaign to win DH over for a Chrismtas trip is going rather well ;) , however he has set me a challenge.
One thing he used to LOVE about going to Florida was all the Chinese buffets. In the "olden days" when we used to go, these were plentiful and GOOD. Bill Wongs was our fave - and it was always packed with locals as well as tourists and it was hard to get a table most nights.
As the years rolled on, the quality of these places dropped like a stone, and even our once beloved Bill Wongs became just like the other places - poor quality food that didnt taste fresh like it used to.
The last place we tried was China Jade, but that was rubbish. We HATE Ming Court and had an awful, awful meal there. We just cant seem to find a really nice Chinese restaurant.
So, are there any recommendations from DIBBers?? My holiday hinges on this, so its important :D.

I surprised you dislike Ming Court, I thought it was fantastic, best Chinese meal I've had in years

Allie dh has just taken me today (its my birthday :) ) to PF changs at the Mall of Millenia. Absolutley beautiful, but slightly more expensive than most I have been to in Florida
PF Changs was my DH's choice of restaurant when we were there for his birthday last year. We've been there a few times now and have enjoyed it and it makes a change from American-style food. :)

Glad someone agrees about Ming Court, it came highly recommended but we hated everything about it from the overcrowded fish ponds out the front to the 'can't be bothered' service and the kaka food :(
sorry can't help with an alternative though

PF Changs? Is that the place in the central food court? I really did not like the look of that at all, interesting you say it's good...

No, PF Changs is outside the mall to the right of the Cheesecake Factory. It's a proper sit-down restaurant, not counter service.

Oh dear, I was going to suggest our 2 fave's China Jade for buffet and Ming Court for something a little more special!
Sorry to hear that you don't like them, we have been quite a few times and always had a great time! I am sure there will be plenty of others though!

Ming court is our fav, easily the best chinese we have had, I am surprised that some people did not have good experiences. Avoid La china super buffet , very poor food and they want to charge you service of 10% for self serve buffet!!
Pf Changs china bistro absolutely gorgeous but very busy when we went spoilt a bit by the fact that they squeezed 6 of us onto a kind of semi circular booth literally no elbow room to eat but could not fault the food i would deffo book next time we go !!!!!

I really liked Ming Court but it is a couple of year ago now since we have been. We went to Nine Dragons in Epcot last September, and really enjoyed it.

another vote for ming court ... we even went twice:pgig:
We once went to a Chinese buffet place on the 192. I can't remember the name now though, but it was pretty dire. The name Ming Court makes me think of "Minging" Court so kind of puts me off :pgig:
We did have a good meal at Nine Dragons in Epcot last time, it wasn't buffet style.

Im liking the sound of PF Changs!!
Cant believe so many of you like Ming Court - Minging is definately right!! Food was poor quality, stodgy, full of MSG and tiny portions on the Dim Sum, especially for a Chinese. Service was rubbish - again unusual for a Chinese. We found it a bit grubby and definately catering to the Tourist crowd -i.e put in minimum effort because they will never be back again - got that right!! To us, they were relying on their "posh" building to draw people in, charging a fortune, even by US standards for bog standard Chinese fare.
It still ranks in our top 3 worst meals ever in Florida!!

Defo P.F. Changs - without a doubt the best chinese we've ever eaten at (and we've tried a few ;))
It's mega popular all over the States which can also be a problem. Don't think we've ever got in without at least an half hour wait.
They do top dim sum, lettuce wraps and mushu chicken etc.
Another vote here for P.F. Chang`s China Bistro at The Mall at Millenia. :-)

Thanks matey!! Looking forward to this one!
I'm really hoping to fit in a meal at PF Changs too.
Just got to lure Paul into the shops first - but the promise of food is always good bait and there are loads of tasty sounding veggie dishes on the menu. :thumbs-up

if anybody goes to winter park for the boat ride or tiffany museum there is a pf changs there which is good too. also along state road 50 (colonial drive ) towards the fashion mall there is a take away branch called pee-wees. they have a few tables and chairs if you wan to eat there. we packed ours in a thermal bag and hot footed it down to lake eola and had a picnic :tounge:

Oh thanks for that  . Paul is probably more likely to be lured by the boat ride than the shopping and we haven't been to WP for quite a few years.

Have only been to PF Changs at Planet Hollywood (old Alladin) in Las Vegas and the food was fantastic - Mmmm
We did find a lovely chinese restaurant at the Sea World end of I-Drive, it's under a bridge and on the right close to a Steak and Ale. I can't remember what it was called, but the food was lovely, not buffet type though. It must have been good because 1 day we went to eat there and a Chinese family were having a wedding reception there, it may have been called Peacock?
I would recommend it.

hi,
if you plan on going to epcot, nine dragons is a must, absolutely delicious, can be a bit expensive but well worth it, my dh nd 3 children got 4 main dishes between us with the usual rice and noodles needless to say we polished the lot of so don't mind paying that bit more for something that we are going to enjoy and finish......:D

Got to vote for PF Chang also. I've been in a few different ones (was in one in Atlanta last week) and they are great. A kind of up market Chinese chain. Good decor, great service and fabulous food. Yum.
