We are thinking of October 2009 for 3 weeks - which would you rather do & why? (bearing in mind we have stayed on-site twice)?

PLEASE HELP-HEAD IN TURMOIL! :D

in the same position as well however if you stay on site and not got a car you are a bit stuck in the evening and you just have a room so not as comfortable, but you do get the use to the free transports to all WDW parks and it is brillant only have to wait ten minutes for a bus and it will take you right up to the front! If you stay at the Marriott Springhill suites you do have a living room where you can chill and bring food in and it wont cost the earth, also if it on international drive you got loads more resturants choices and of course the i-trolly and the lyxs buses to get around! Can't really help sorry :pgig: other then make a list of pro and con :d:

I would always split my stay. In that way, you get the best of both worlds. I cant even imagine having a holiday without doing it that way. In fact we do a three way split between I Drive, Universal and Disney. In that way you get the best of everything - time on I Drive to do the shops, retsaurants amd the parks in the area and also time on site. Once I had tried a split holiday there was no going back. I know a lot of Dibbers do it too.
If it were a straight choice though, I would always choose onsite.

I would always choose onsite over off, but I do agree you will get more space in the Suites. Since you are there 3 weeks, I would vote for a split stay.

Thanks for the advice here - if we did a split holiday don't we waste a day transferring from one hotel to the other?

Also how does it affect the cost?

We are usually packed the night before. It doesnt take more than an hour. We do breakfast early the next day and we are usually away and in our Disney hotel by 9.30 - 10 am Then we are off for the rest of the day. Unpacking waits until we come back in the evening. Transferring between our I Drive hotel and US hotel last time wasted even less time. We were there at 8.30 am, left our baggage and were in the park by 8.45. It just isnt a problem.

I had the utter misfortune of staying in the Marriot Village (Springhill/Fairfield/the other one) for a couple of days once due to unforseen circumstances. I'd never, ever go back there voluntarily. One of the worst hotels I've ever suffered through.

Hi,
We stayed at Marriot Springhill Suites last month for 2 weeks and found it to be excellent.
Ideal location, 10mins to WDW.
Breakfast ok.
Rooms clean, bright and large
Housekeeping every day
Lovely pool and use of internet at Courtyard.
We got the feeling that the staff would have tried very hard to sort any probs out, they were very friendly and attentive.
Price, fairly reasonable considering the location.
And only 5 mins to B.Breeze!!

oooh tell us more- why was that - we were swaying towards there too!

Dirty hotel. Dirty room, dirty sheets (!). Uncaring apathetic staff, horrible atmosphere. On checkin, despite booking a double room we were given 2 single beds and told there were no other rooms available. After we complained the manager magically found lots of rooms available (see below). Little to no security, no safety deposit boxes in the rooms meaning we had to leave valuables in an entirely different hotel to the one we stayed in. The food was mediocre to poor unless you wanted to go to the takeout shop, which was also poor. If I remember rightly, there's no bar etc. The list of problems goes on and on.

Basically it was a thoroughly miserable place to stay. We were supposed to be there for 4 nights (unplanned, transiting through we got stuck in Orlando with no forward travel arrangements so our travel service arranged it for us). After night 1 we complained to the management about all the problems, and they oh-so-kindly gave us a free $5 breakfast voucher (see above comments re: food). After night 2 we couldn't stand it anymore, we checked out and checked into the Ritz-Carlton.

I don't know if it's still the same, but you'll find many travel agents rate the hotel as a 3* or 4*. Unfortunately it's not, it's barely 2* but to find that out you have to dig around.

sorry to hear you had a bad time but I think this is the exception not the rule,as for the security boxes it does state that they are at reception not inroom, which of the 3 hotels did you stay in exactly ? as breakfast is complimentary in Fairfield and Springhill

Hi :wavey:

We loved Springhill Suites and would not hesitate to return.

The room was spotless and was cleaned each day, the staff couldn't do enough for us.

OK, the breakfast was a bit repetitive, but hey it was free! There's nothing to stop you going to the Golden Corral for a change, which is only a few minutes walk, as is Bahama Breeze :tounge: :tounge:
