Antivirus + firewall

I have avg 7.5 and vista's defender firewall.
Do you get a notification if avg move to a new version and is defender ok for the firewall. If not what free firewall would you recommend?

AVG will let you know when it is time for an upgrade and if you gave them an e-mail address they will also let you know that way.

As for firewall software I would recommend changing from the MS one, perhaps something like ZoneAlarm, which is also free

Don't know about the firewall but AVG will advise you about updates.

I have Vista on my lappy and tried to download Zone Alarm for it, but it really did not like it and would not let me open the software (even though I searched for the Vista version) - I've had to stick with the Windows Defender firewall for now - which I'm pretty sure is pants.
AVG runs fine though.
