On last years trip we used a stroller on the last 2 days of our trip(the type you hire from the parks). My son was 5 at the time and it was so much easier to get around quicker rather than dragging him around in the florida heat.It was a novelty to him and he thought it was fab! Anyhow, when we go next year he will be 7.Would he look out of place being pushed around? What do you think??

Hi

Well I did say i was going to take the buggy for my 5 year old this Sep but dh says no, if we need one we will hire one.

Its so hard to say, last time when my eldest dd was 5 she never had one but she was out of a buggy by 3 years old anyway.

I think I would only hire one if needed but its not out of place to see older children in the strollers.

I wouldn't take one for a 7 year old. My eldest was 6 the first time we took the youngest (who was a baby). She walked most of the time and on a few very late evenings she borrowed her sisters stroller and we carried the baby. The following trip she was almost 7 and again on 2 evenings we rented but she walked the rest of the time.

if you child is reasonably fit then I don't think they should need a stroller.

hi

when we went my middle 2 were 6 and 7 and they managed fine, they walked everywhere and didnt complain mind you they did sleep well every night :pgig:
i did see lots of kids older than mine sitting in the strollers that you hire so if you decided to he wouldnt look out of place.

I don't think that kids mind being pushed around in a stroller as it beats walking any day,

I don't think he would look out of place in a stroller. There are older children use strollers for lots of reasons - my youngest was 9 last visit and uses one because he's autistic and likes a place to hide. Do what you think is best for him - don't care what other people think! :)

My kids last really appreciated a stroller. Must admit in the August heat I wouldn't mind someone pushing me around the parks.

Thanks for your replies.Think best thing to do is let him decide if he wants to or not.Like you said Jedi Angie,it doesnt matter what other people in the park think as long as he's ok with it! :)

my ds was 7 in march and we are going to buy a cheap one over there for him for night times and shopping days, he can use it if he wants.

I dont think mine would fit into a stoller now he's 7?

We bought a cheapy one when he was 5 and it was a bit of a squeeze even then! :erm: - he's a skinny kid too! :erm:

When we went last Sept my boys were just turned 5 and nearly 7 and neither of them needed a buggy.

I fully expected my youngest to need one but he managed fine and never grumbled.

So see when you get there. If he is struggling then just buy a cheap one. You will see lots of older children in buggies so don't worry about that.

it really depends on your child to be honest.
my boy was 7 last year and he never used one, but you generally get a feel of whether they will need one or not.
if he used it alot last time then he may do, but if he was barely in it then probably not.
i know a while ago in B and M Bargains they had strollers for bigger children ( ie over the normal buggy weight maximum limits ) I was debating last time whether to get one?
Or as mentioned above you can always just hire on the days he is tired and see how it goes

We fully intend to hire double strollers at MK and EPCOT for my 4 1/2 year old (as he will be then) and his 6 year old Cousin.

Both ARE fit and healthy but that doesnt stop them getting tired and wanting to take a power nap. If either decide they dont want to use it then hey what is $15 on the whole grand scale of things and least we have wheels for the many purchases hehehe!

You do whats right for YOUR child, nothing worse than a tired, irritable child :)

when i went in 06 hilda was 4 (nearly 5)and didn't need the stroller but we went in late september and the weather was cooler this time we are going in July and she is 6 i will be buying a cheap stroller when we are their if she doesn't want to use it that is her choice (she can push me :)) but i want to know that if it gets to much for her with the heat etc. then she can have a sit down

We bought one for our 5 yr old from walmart for $20 (not the cheapest). She didn't use it much but it was great for when her little legs got tired. My 7 yr old took turns in it when she got tired during the day.The villa had a cheap fold up one which we used for evenings at the parks. My kids are fit and active but there is nothing worse that a tired, grumpy child having to be dragged from the parks at night. One night, after wishes it took over an hour just to get out of the park. The pushchairs were a godsend.

Just wanted to make you aware that Disney have increased the cost of their stroller rentals. Double strollers were $18 per day, they are now $31 per day!!:omg:
Didn't want you to get a nasty shock when you got there.

We may be going this nov, and will probably take one stoller with us. DD will be 4 and DS 6. My main worry is that they may fall asleep early and then we would be stuck in our hotel. Last year we bought two strollers over there and it was a godsend. We could pop into walmart after a day at the parks and if they had both fallen asleep there was no need to wake them as we just put them in the strollers. Also managed a game of crazy golf whilst they were both asleep.

They did not use them much during the day but were great for the parades etc. We would just park them up when they were not needed.

my dd at 5 coped fine without one. however we weren't out from morning to night. Even if a child is used to walking a lot and is active at home the heat may wear them out quicker.

On our first visit DS turned 6 whilst out there and we didn't use a stroller at all and he never moaned once bless him - unlike his 16 year old brother - shame they didn't make one for his size ;)

My DD is 7 this year and i am intending to not take one even though i see the benefits. If i really do have to give in it will get a cheap one there i think .

My twins will be 3 when we go and they rarely use their stroller now at home but we are definately taking one for when they feel tired and for the evenings in the park. Saying that, if it's empty my 8 year old will surely jump into one of the seats (lazy bones!!) Any excuse to be pushed around! I'm sure that lots of the time we'll just be pushing an empty one but at least it's somewhere to dump the bags and not have a backpack on when it's so hot.

Whe our sons were that age they didn`t need a stroller. They wouldn`t have gone in one at that age anyway, they liked to walk. Personally I think 7 is too old for a stroller, but at the end of the day it is your son and therefore your (and your son`s) choice. :-)

if i was you i would wait and see.
my son is 4 and is really big for his age, i looked everywhere for a buggy for him over here and couldnt find one so we waited till we got over there.
we didnt even have to hire one, he walked everywhere and didnt complain(even when we were at the pirate and princess party till after midnight)
i would have put money on him needing a buggy and he didnt so i would tell anyone to wait and see.
im not sure if he was just swept up in the atmostphere etc but the walking just didnt affect him(although he did complain around the world showcase in epcot but we put that down to being bored)
good luck and have a fantastic time
