Buying PS3 games over there ?

anyone know if you buy the games over there if they will work on the PS3 machines here. guy in game said they do but wanted to double check

We have the 40gb ps3 and bought FIFA 08 from Walmart and that works ok.

Are you 100% sure about that? My DS bought a PS3 recently (with his paper money :thumbs-up ) and we asked at Game if PS3 games bought in USA would work on it and they said no because they were all region coded. They did say that you MAY find some games which are zero region and would work on all PS3s but the majority would not.

Im afraid the sales rep in this case is talking BS, only the Blueray movies have region codes at this time and only a handfull of them actually do, this is a FAQ from the OFFICIAL PLAYSTATION WEBSITE

To explain the bit at the bottom of the question the only trouble you may have is the display, if you have a HDTV and use HDMI this is not an issue at all, also if you have a TV purchased in the last 5 years then you should also not encounter a problem. 1 other thing which wont really apply as you are buying games in the states is language - for instance a game bought in Japan will still work but the game may not have an option to change it to english although ive not found one yet that doesnt have an english option!

Don't worry if they are 40gb or 60gb all PS3 games bought from USA will work.
Just so your aware though PS2 games will only work on the 60gb model as the 40gb one is not backward compatible.

This is not entirely correct, American PS2 games will not work on a UK PS3 60gb model as PS2 games are region protected

Some do, and some dont, it all depends on the game, just look on Amazon.com to check american release dates

Had this when we went, there was a sign in Virgin stating no PSP or PS3 games will work on non US units, when I asked about the sign the employee confirmed this but as I already knew the games DID work I asked about in a few different stores, seems its something to do with the bods at Sony stating this is the info they must give out if asked!!!!!!!!STRANGE!!! :confused2

All the ps3 games are region free [so no matter where you buy them they will work ]

Hi All Well here are the facts PS3 games bought in US work on UK Consoles DS games bought in US work in UK DS's but beware Blue Ray Moves are region Coded and won't work on uk Consoles Hope the info Helps
