There is a pretty comprehensive sticky on the planning thread covering the options.

Make sure you have plenty of credit in your phone, lol. I am with o2 and im sure they all probably use the same set up call wise. I was charged 25p per text message for sending/receiving them from UK. I was also charged (cant remember how much) for receiving calls from the UK. I will be taking mines again this year and have been building up my balance recently. You can also buy a phone card there and use it in an ordinary phone (much cheaper if you intend to phone home a lot):) I take mines as the kids id has my mobile number on it:)

Purchase a T Mobile american sim card - like this

http://cgi.ebay.com/T-MOBILE-NYC-150-MIN-PREPAID-SIM-CARD-SIDEKICK-2-3-LX_W0QQitemZ380015630556QQihZ025QQcategoryZ29778QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Make sure your phone is unlocked then use this, the call rates are extremely cheap compared to using your own phone.

Hi,

Anyone know how would this compare to buying couple of Mobile Phones and Pre-Paid cards whilst in Florida?

Sorry i have only ever bought a t mobile sim, i know lots of people use trac phones for calls who are on here so hopefully someone will come along and tell you if they are any good - with the t mobile sim i use a duel sim card reader for my phone, that way i can check my text from my normal number and reply from the american sim all on 1 phone.

Did this when i went over easter and worked well. Got phones unlocked before we went for £10 even for Nokia N95 then paid about £20 for 2 sims on ebay and they included 20mins per sim to call uk which was handy and i used quite a bit to meet back up again with gf in parks after going off on some rides, i managed to use a total of about $7 of the included $30 credit. I was amazed how long the credit lasted and expected to top up when there!! Certainly recommend it also put number on id bracelet for 6yr old dd.

How did you manage to get your N95 unlocked, ive asked in various market stalls and dodgy shops and was unsuccessful in all of them, i eventually paid Orange £20, but ive just got a new replacement as the old one broke down, and they want another £20 off me to do it again!!

Have a stall here that also has a small shop in the town. He took phone and i got it back few days later, has to wait for an engineer to come to fix phones, he also unlocks them. Not the only place in town to do it so must be in lots of towns i guess!

I'm on contract with 3 and made about 5 calls, sent three picture texts and about 5 normal texts, and paid about £5, which I thought would be a lot more.
