I've made three purchases in the magic kingdom today, one was for around $23 another $40 and another $54, I've only had to sign the CC receipt on the one above $50, the others they swiped my card, handed it back with the receipt.

Scary as hell and I'd hate to think of the prospect of losing my card and what could happen!

Is it some kind of deal Disney have with Visa to speed smaller purchases up?

I just think its something Disney do, they must figure the paperwork involved with chargebacks under $ 50 isnt worth doing.

Wierd and scary, but anything under $ 50 and they just swipe the card without a signature!

Cheers Andy, thought that must have been it - was just a little taken aback by it. Sue hadnt noticed the first time, think she was looking at something she wants to buy :p

Signatures are going by the wayside.

Signatures are so easy to forge anyway, that it probably isn't worth it. It is scary though what could happen if you lost it.

Yeah the guy in the Disney shop in our hotel last year told me you only sign if it's for something over $50

Yes, we noticed this too. Initially I though it was just things we charged to our room (as we weren't using our cards out and about) but then I realised that people in front of us weren't having to sign with Visa/MC either.

I wonder if disney will introduce something along the line of the new oyster cards which double up as a payment card you just touch for small items under £10 , and if its above you insert an authorisation code and you can also set a limit for a day

i hate carrying dollars around with me normally only have a few for drinks or snacks etc and use my card for everything else.

i think its an awful descion from disney to do this because you could rack up a fair few $$$$ on the card before someone realises the card is gone.

We had this in Universal last December. Its worrying in my mind. We have had two lot's of cc fraud recently on both our cc's. I must say Virgin spotted the one on theirs very quickly.

Honestly, I don't think a signature would prevent fraud - most stores hardly even glance at your signature anyway. If someone is going to use fraud, they will most likely do it over the internet or phone where there are no signature or pin checks

They have been using this type of payment in the States for a while. They have had touch pads in McD's and 7 Eleven for payments for a couple of years for Visa quick pay. In the UK they are doing the trials using Oyster in some places but in the states most cards have something like this built into them.

Talking about scary, can you imagine what I was going through recently when we decided to go to Clearwater for the day. With about another half hours drive to go until we reached the beach we decided to stop off at Perkins for a big brekkie and toilet stop. Tummies full we arrived at the beach, glorious sunshine and no suncream for the kids!! I'd left it in my bag under the table in Perkins along with mine and hubbys Flex acc cards and CC's and driving licenses!!

That drive back to Perkins was the longest of my life, with hubby turning the air blue!! :nonono:

Luckily, some kind person had handed it in. How lucky were we??

That's exceptionally lucky! Its always a relief when you find it again, but the time from when you realise its gone to when you get it back is awful!
