in New York and Anaheim. Ideally the one in Anaheim, I would like it to be near Disney. I want to try and keep all costs down but I still want good hotels.
Thanks.
How many people? What is your NYC hotel budget?
Also how many nights?

4 people (2 adults, 2 teens), no idea on a NY budget but had already got a quote for the whole holiday at around £4500. Thats for 14 nights, 4 nights in NY, 10 nights in Anaheim.

When we stayed in NY there was only 4 or us, i dont know if the hotel did 6 but i guess not many will. have you thought about 2 rooms
anyway i will give the Marriott financial a very good report. the rooms, hotel and staff were fantastic. yes it was downtown manhatten but within 2 mins you could be on any subway route. walk to GZ, battery park, wall street, broklynn bridge. plus if over a weekend the downtown hotels are a great deal cheaper compared to their uptown equivelents
happy hunting

There are a lot of hotels in Anaheim for all budgets but personally I still think the Sheraton Anaheim is a good choice.
Free shuttle to Disney, but also easily walkable. Ignore the reviews which state you have to cross a busy road. Yes you do, but it is controlled crossing on red lights.
Sheraton Sleeper Beds are to die for. As we booked direct through VH the time we went I'm not sure what the rate will be, but give it look.
In NY, best decide on location first. There is so much choice. For a semi budget choice the Comfort Inn just across from Macy's is solid if not spectacular and has a free breakfast. Alternatively for something a bit more upmarket the Grand Hyatt is amazing, although a little business orientated.
Best of luck.

The Anaheim Plaza is literally on the other side of the road from Disneyland - it is a 10 minute walk (at most) to the entrance gate. It has a good pool and there are loads of restaurants/bars nearby.
sheraton anaheim is a good hotel, last time we stayed at the hyatt orange county, thought that was a really nice hotel too, neither hotel is far from disney, both have shuttles to take you there if you dont fancy the walk as well

We are looking at the Hyatt Orange County as it does one bedroom suites (we are a family of 4 with 2 teenagers too!) We are thinking of booting DS(19) out onto the bedsettee in the living room!

they do 2 bedroom suites too, they wasnt that expensive last time i stayed there,as well as kids suites you could stick both your teenagers in the bunk beds lol
As for NY, I usu tell ppl to look for hotels in the area where they plan to end each evening. This way your family isnt trooping around unknown areas at 1am. For example if you will be shopping 5th Ave and ESB at night then plan to stay in MTE. Or planning TOR, IMAX and Broadway show then TS, CPS or MTW. If you think you may spend evenings in the villages then stay downtown.
As prev recommended do a rough itinerary (a dibber has posted a must do list a few times do a search) and see where you will finish each day and try for hotel there.
Prices are generally 2* for $300, 3* for $400 and 4* is $500+. Since you have 4 in your family that will narrow your choices somewhat. Most hotel room are small (for single business travelers) and many may not have 2 doubles.
The Affinia group of hotels are highly recommended on tripadvisor and a few dibbers. Pricey but its a good starting poiint. They have a few hotels throughout the city.
If I calculated correctly, you are going in Oct? Its an excellent time to visit NYC. Weather is good with temps in the 50-70F range.

WE stayed in the Best Western Park Place Inn at Anaheim back in 2006. It's a very basic hotel but clean and absolutely fantastic location. You literally cross the road and you are on Disney property with a 5 min walk max from there to the main entrance. Awesome! ;) :D
We've just come back from New York and stayed at the Marriott Courtyard Midtown East. It was a great hotel, and a lovely large room with two queens and a sofa bed. We are 2 adults and 2 teens like you and it was perfect for us.
The hotel's in a brilliant location, only 15 mins walk to Central Park, Disney Store, FAO Schwarz, about the same distance to Rockefeller Center and about 20 mins to Times Square. The only time we got a taxi was to go to the ferry for the Statue ofLiberty and Ellis Island. If you go to www.marriott.com you can find the hotel there by doing a search. You will also find great reviews and some photos on www.tripadvisor.com We also got lucky and had a view of the Chrysler Building. :thumbs-up
We went to Anaheim last August and stayed at the Grand Californian right in the middle of the parks, it was really nice, but it is quite expensive.
For New York I can recommend Marriott Courtyard Jersey City as a great hotel to stay at; and A1 Carma Limos of Hoboken, NJ, as a great company for SUV transfers ($95-$108 +tips).
We had a 55m2 1-bedroom suite for $249+taxes (for 2-nights, another night was $289+taxes), so the kids had a sofa bed in a separate room. The hotel is next to a Path station. Trains every 10-mins or so to 33rd Street and Broadway, one block from Empire State Building and Macys. Journey time approx. 12 mins. Mon-Fri trains are direct, at weekends add 5-mins as trains go via Hoboken.
At Weekdays you can also get the ferry, which is swift, and runs every half hour.
The hotel is opposite a huge mall - like the Florida Mall.
You can save even more money if you fly in and out of Newark (EWR) rather than JFK, but we flew via JFK as I had booked the flights before the accommodation.

New Yorks a tough one, we stayed at Radio city apt great price, great place fantastic location, but we cant book it next time for love or money, but if u can its pretty good location and decent size for NY, we are staying over in Queens at the Pan american this time as Manhattan is just too expensive for what they are offering, but as we have rough idea of what we are doing it fits in for our plans

I've earmarked the Anaheim plaza as our choice, but NY is proving more difficult as now we have changed it from a simply 4 night break for me and DH to a 14 night holiday with DH and 2 DSs, the cost has rocketed. I still want somewhere nice in NY but I can no longer afford the earth :pgig:
