Has anyone stayed at Cape Coral?
What's there? Restaurants / shops / things to do?
Thanks :d:

Stayed there for a few days last September. Enjoyed a nice day on the beach at Sanibel Island and visited the Edison & Ford Museum. Also took a drive to Fort Myers which isn't too far away. Enjoyed it but wouldn't rush to go back.
All the usual chain type restaurants are there but we did manage to find a really nice individual restaurant one night. Sorry, can't remember the name of it.

Why wouldn't you rush back? I haven't finalised booking yet so could change the resort we stay at the Gulf coast.
Did you stay in a villa?
We have stayed there twice a year for the past 5 years.Do April for 2 weeks and then xmas for 3 weeks.Stay in a villa and use this as our bas e to travel from.
You are about 16 mile from Sanibel Island and you will go over 2 tolls first one $2 and then $6 on Sanibel causeway and it will cost you $2 an hour to park at the beach.
From Fort Myers you can catch the Key west Express and go down there for a day http://www.seakeywest.com/ well worth a visit. Or pop over to Miami mid week for a couple of days.Did this was great apart from the speeding fine on Alligator alley.
Tons of places to eat.
Shrimp Shack
Outback Steak House (try a Blooming Onion)
Jasons Deli
Ruby Tuesdays
Sam Seltzers
The above are our regs But there are loads to choose from to suite all tastes and bubgets.
As I am a keen fisherman have just come back on 2nd May and finally caught a Tarpon 110 lbs 3/4hour to boat it.:d::d::d:

Thank you so much for this information, I was beginning to feel a bit worried that we had decided to stay in a place that didn't seem very popular.
Thanks for the information on Key West, we might do this.
Would you recommend the trip to Miami? What is the drive across on Alligator Alley like?
Sorry for the millions of questions, but I am just releived that a feloow dibber knows Cape Coral. :spin::spin::spin:

weve just booked a villa in cape coral, which has its own boat dock (for the last 5 days of our holiday this june). We are going to get a boat.cant wait, think it will be a little bit different from what we usually do, make a nice change!! we have stayed on captiva island (the first time we went to florida -for the 2nd week of that holiday) and really enjoyed it, so are looking forward to visiting by boat!!

We're also planning on renting a boat - we also thought it would be a way to see some of the real Florida!
Have a great holiday. :wavey:

We're doing the same next May - beautiful villa with a boat, having 7 days there after 10 in Orlando. The villa was recommended by a friend who stayed there last year. Booked through Osprey Villas (who did you use?). Cannot decide which part of the holiday I'm most excited about :spin:!

I couldnt find any villas though english companies (didnt know about osprey!!) so went on an american website, vacationrentals and searched for english owners (took some doing, only found 4 out of hundreds!!) Wanted english owners as its just easier to pay!
Im the same...cant decide which bit im most looking forward to!!...im just about at bursting point now, and am driving everyone at work nuts!

I wish we'd manage to find English owners. :(
We have booked a fab villa through capecoralrentals. They are German owners, but live in Cape Coral. They take ages to reply to emails though which can be rather annoying.
However, we can only pay them via a bank transfer which is a real pain. But it will be wirth it in the end!!! :spin::spin:

We've booked 2 weeks at Christmas staying in a villa in SE Cape Coral. Booked via vacationrentals - American owners . They have their own business so we booked via Visa.
We have had to change length of stay due to Continental cancelling flights this week. 2extra days - more shopping and no problem to our American Hosts

We have looked at Cape Coral a few times now and it looks beautiful. Having your own boat too, its so appealing.
The sunsets are supposed to be awesome.
