Can anyone recommend an area to stay in for a 3 night visit to Yosemite?
As you can imagine - I've left it too late to book in the park so I'm going to have to stay somewhere outside.
Is Oakhurst too far away?
We will be coming from a stay in San Francisco.
Thanks

we stayed in oakhurst in 2005 and if I am not mistaken it was about 45 miles from the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center and it was quite a spectactular drive
in the morning we drove back into the national park to visit mariposa grove and then over the tioga pass to Tenaya Lake

Mariposa is very nice - it's a real one horse town so eating places etc are a bit limited but the Mariposa Lodge is very pleasant.
Check out the relevant bits from our trippie....

We stayed in Mammoth Mountain, it's 25 mins from the start of the park and once your in the scenery is beautiful as you make your way to the centre,

We stayed in Oakhurst and its fine. Its only a short drive to the park entrance but a long, yet beautiful drive, to the centre.

Have you tried calling the hotels in the park directly? They may have something available.
I was so hoping to have a bear come into the campgrounds :)
