Hi

We Are Planning On Going To The Friday Night Car Cruise Parade At Old Town.

I Think The Parade Starts At 9pm.

Would Anyone Happen To Know - How Long Roughly The Parade Lasts.

Thanks.

Hi Donna

We got there about 7.30. All the cars were parked up and you can walk along and have a good look and chat to the owners and read info on the cars - Some real beauties and I'm not into cars!. Not sure how long the parade took as was shopping at the start, but would say roughly 15 minutes - Lots of fumes at this point

I'd recommend you get there well before the parade. In my opinion, it's more fun to walk round and examine the cars when they are parked than just to watch them drive by. You can get to talk to the owners and many of them have information cards set out on or beside their car, so you can get a bit of the history too.

We headed there right after tea, parked at a store opposite Old Town (which makes it much easier when you're leaving!), had a walk round the cars, a few beers (except me, who was driving :( ) and left just after the parade. The night was one of the highlights of our holiday and we intend to go back next year.

Could I suggest you go to the Saturday nite Cruise rather than the Friday one.
Friday is for the more modern cars built after 1973, more for the boy racers in some respect. Whereas Saturday is for the classics with loads of 60s muscle cars, beauty's like the '57 Chevy Belairs etc. Cars arive from the afternoon but are all on display from T-time onwards. Parade starts approx 8.30/9pm and lasts about half an hour or more depending on turnout. Parking can be a bit difficult in busy periods as they have built a resort on the land at the bottom end of Old Town that was once the overflow carpark.

We did the Saturday night one last year .. we ate at the Red Lobster first and left our car parked there as it was only a short walk over.

It is better to go early evening to see them parked up

Stuart,

Don't suppose you've noticed any Edsels at the Saturday nite cruise? I'm obsessed with them at the moment and haven't yet made the Saturday nite cruise!

Thanx

The cruise is a 8:30 on Saturday night and 9:00 on Friday night and lasts at least 30 minutes. It can be longer if they are having a special parade or if there is a big turn out. It is better to get there early and walk around and see the cars like previously suggested. We have found we've enjoyed this more than the parade itself. On Saturday's some of the cars arrive as early as 1:00 but we've found that most are there from 5:00 on.

Take a look here (http://www.old-town.com/CarShows.html) for the parade information at their website.

They do have bike night on Thursday's so if you are into bikes and not cars this would be the night to go on. Loads of bikes and during bike week (often last week of February or first week of March) you will really see a big turn out.

Parking, as mentioned, can be difficult especially if it is a special weekend. We've generally parked across the street at one of the shopping centers and walked over. Be sure to use the cross walks at the lights because this is a terribly busy street. We saw several people (families) crossing at random areas and a few were really lucky because of cars making lane changes.

I think my DH and my boys would love to see this while we are there. Can anyone tell me if it is still on in Nov/Dec or is it more a summer thing?

Thanks

Claire, there probably are some around but I wouldnt swear to it.Problem with the Edsel it had a love hate relationship with the American public, possibly because of its distinct front end that is not to everybody's taste The selection of cars at the parade is vast, even the odd Mini and a Sunbeam with a V8 fitted, obviously built for the US market at the time.
Take a look at some of the footage on Youtube, these 3 from the same guy are good http://uk.youtube.com/user/raycoverboy give you some idea of what to expect.
Sorry I cant be more helpful.
