Just starting to think about next years holidays
...we won't be considering Florida, Dubai, The Far East or Australia etc.......but more likely the Med. or Egypt, or at a push, possibly the Caribbean (though the cheap end such as Dominican Republic) or Mexico.
Has anyone got any suggestions for hotels that have the "Wow !" factor..... without too much of the "ow !" :omg: factor when looking at the cost !...so I suppose were talking about reasonably priced 4*& 5* places that are really special, particularly in terms of their pool facilities, and/ or location.
thanks. :wavey:

What sort of budget have you got per person, and is that for 1 or 2 weeks.
Are you looking for All inclusive or not?
Time of year?
Is it just 2 adults or are you taking children.
Do you like it lively, or nice and relaxing.

It would be 1 week.
Don't mind all inclusive or H/B
2 adults , 2 kids (ages 11 & 7).
Looking for quiet resorts (don't mind remote locations)
Time of year; Feb, May or October.
Quite happy to do DIY or package (prefer DIY though)
Kids love water - beaches & pool - but lazy river & chutes would be a bonus

We've just returned from the Red Sea staying at a purpose built resort town of El Gouna. Its about 25km north from Hurghada. We stayed at the Three Corners Ocean View which is on the Marina but there are many other 4 and 5* hotels (The Sheraton Miramar over the lagoon from us looked nice). I would definately recommend. See here (http://www.elgouna.com/Home.aspx?SectionID=17)

Jolly Beach Resort (NOT Jolly Beach Villas!) in Antiqua definitely has a WOW factor beach, pure white sand and sunsets to die for. Its a fairly large hotel but the buildings are not high-rise (3 floors at most) and its the cheaper end of the market. Just avoid the Spersaver rooms, the Superior which can sleep up to 4 adults are quite comfortable.

Have fun looking for the ideal place

Here are my recommendations
Playa Del Carmen in Mexico -any of the Riu hotels but since you have children you may prefer the Riu Tequila. May is an excellent time of year (we go in less than 3 weeks) but it is a long way to go for a week.
Another heads up for the Red Sea, but this time the Hyatt Regency in Sharm. Not cheap for Egypt standards but the hotel definitely has the WOW factor including a lazy river. Feb or Oct would be great as they have fabulous weather all year round.
Cruise - I can see from your sig that you have already done a Disney cruise, but just having done Christmas on Freedom of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) I can heartily recommend it. My trip repost is in my sig. Freedom is doing the Caribbean again next year for a week, or you could even do the Med on her sister ship which is on her inaugural in a the next few weeks (or has it just been). I think its called Independence.
