Has anyone taken their little one to the barbers on Main Street for their first haircut?

I was thinking about taking Hermione, but I only want her fringe cut and the rest left to grow. Would they still class this as a first haircut? Just thought it would be a cute experience plus you get special Micky ears for them!

I've seen it being done a few times and it's lovely when the child co-operates but I've also seen it when the mum is the one who wants the cut and the child doesn't. It's hard to watch a screaming child being forced to get it done just because it's mum wants the certificate.

As long as Hermione is happy then I'd go for it. It can be very busy in there so go first thing in the morning as soon as you get into the park

thanks for that.

I wouldnt make her do it as I too hate seeing parents do stuff like that. But we are finding out that she is obviously going to be the kind of kid who LOVES attention and I think this might really be fun for her!

Both DH and myself are hairdressers and the day we went they were not doing haircuts just singing. It was fantastic and when they found out DH was a barber (not the singing type like they were ;) ) they sat him down and brough out a pair of three foot long cardboard scissors. Best photos we had that trip. Was a fantastic little shop. I will be looking for some cutting this time though.

On the first haircut though, the very minute ends off would help maintain the growth and stop it gowing endy and splitting. Only talking a few mm mind but it can make all the difference with little ones whos hair can be fine and whispy.

Thanks for that but we dont have a problem with fine and wispy hair in this house! All my DDs have incredibly thick hair - even the baby. Hers looks scrumptious as it is but the front is so long. I brush some to the side and clip it but it still leaves a fringe that is just begging to be cut. I was going to get my friend who is a hairdresser to trim it for me but decided I would rather get it done there if I can as a cute experience (as she cant do BBB with her big sisters :( )

I do know exactly what you mean about fine hair though - I see so many little girls who just desperately need a bit of hair cut off because it is so wispy looking. Although it would be nice sometimes to have hair like that on my DDs because hairwashing/drying takes a looooong time in this house.

Sounds like a great idea but definitely go as soon as you enter the park we tried to do it last year and the queues were always really long so we never got it done.

I have done this for both my daughters. It was a great photo op plus a bargain. They don't charge any more than a child's haircut (about $15) but you get the certificate plus the Mickey ears that have "first haircut" embroidered on the back. As they do so many first haircuts they are very good at keeping them entertained, covering them in stickers etc. My older daughter got a haircut plus pink gel and glitter when DD2 had her first cut, much cheaper than BBB. Since you are going in May it shouldn't be too crowded.

Have a great trip.

Each time we've been, We arrived at MK just as they open, We go straight in and straight to the Barbers, at the top of main street.
Always managed to get in first, or very small queue
Youngest was around 5/6 when he 1st visited Mickeys Barber ;)
There's few photos in my Gallery.
Next trip both DH and both DS's had there hair cuts, gel and mickey sparkles.
Eldest DS declined the Mickey glitter ;) but the Barber sprinkled some in when not looking :d:
They got lots of comments all day from CM's and characters, on there hair.
Great must to do at MK :thumb:

Oh would loved to have got this done - I think I am 20 years too late, my center parting now nearly touches my ears on both sides :erm:

We had this done for Steven - he was about 8 months old at the time. He didn't have much hair so the barber just trimmed a tiny bit off. They keep the hair clippings for you to keep, and the child gets Mickey ears and a certificate. Steven was too young for pixie dust so my 6 year old niece got a good sprinkling instead. It was a great experience and well worth waiting in line for.
