Just managed to get a couple of flights to Rome for a Long weekend in September. Flying out Friday 12th our of Leeds Bradford, then flying back in on Monday 15th.
So now I have the flights I just need to sort everything else out. I'm a complete newbie where Rome/Italy is concerned to any help / advice tips would be gratefully received.
1. Weather - what's it going to be like?
2. Hotels - any recommendations? Looking for 4* upwards but not that will break the bank and needs to be in a good location?
3. Airport to hotel (city centre) - how and how long?
4. List of must see attractions?
5. Foodie recommendations.
6. Anything else I have not thought about?
Thanks for looking x

We went one May but is suspect the weather will be the same in Sept ( lovely)
We stayed at the Cosmopolita very central easy walking distance to everything , bit of a hike back from the Vatican though !.
There are so many sights to see , the best bet is to get one of the tourist maps and just walk where ever you fancy , you will see hundreds of people walking round with maps , either follow them or go where they have come from lol.
There is an open top bus ride but we found if you got off on one of the stops the chances of getting back on were slim , especially at the Vatican ( see above )
Eating out is a bit hit and miss we did find a fantastic restaurant down one of the back streets , if you can eat where the locals eat,
Rome is one my favourite places you will have a great time

Went for the day in the beginning of November weather was Warm bit of a surprise when i went and came back home to frost.
From Ciampino airport to city center too us about 40 mins in traffic but i think there is 3 airports in Rome this was the one Ryanair used. Used a coach called Terravision was something to do with Ryanair i think cost about 10 euros return http://coachtv.ibooking.com/book.asp?id_prov=3098&id_affiliate=70
Didn't have too long there but went and saw The Forum, The Colosseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and St Peters Square. Which are must do's as well as lots of others on the way round.
Can't recommend a hotel as we came home same day. Very Nice City..
Hi, we are going at the end of May for 5 days so will be happy to give you any info we can when we return! :wavey:

I went to rome last august and it was awfully hot so september i should imagine will still be warm.
My favourite place was the pantheon, that was actually free to get in and really pretty, there is a bar outside called bar pantheon and we used to have a drink there in the evening which was lovely.
To be honest we ate at the hard rock alot! but at the end of the road the hardrock is on is a little eaterie, can't remember what it was called but that done great pasta and steak.
if you do the colloseaum don't go on a guided tour even if the queue is huge, we paid extra to do this and people that were in the queue with us got in before us!
One tip if you like handbags there are alot of street sellers selling fake designer bags, i bought a couple and they are fantastic, everyone thinks thier real, if you do want to buy a couple haggle with them i think i got 2 for £15.00!
Won't recomment our hotel as it was nowhere near the sights and we hated it!!!

The weather will be great in September and I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. Rome has something to see round every corner, so wandering on foot is highly recommended. There are also open top sightseeing buses that I would recommend - you get commentary in English and you can hop on and off at the various sights. It's a good way to get to the vatican if you're staying more centrally.
We used the train to get into Rome from the airport. It's a direct service and very cheap compared to Taxi. The only downside was the very long walk along the platform in Rome - it's a very big station! Once in Rome you have a choice of walking, getting a taxi, or public transport. We chose to stay in a hotel reasonably close to the station so that we could walk and it was also easy to walk from there to the Coloseum and Trivi Fountain etc.
We only stayed in a small 3* place, not 4*, but it was clean with good size rooms and quiet. If you're interested you can find it here: http://www.hotelraffaello.it - we booked it through expedia.co.uk and you can see the reviews there and on trip advisor.
I'm not a city person, but I loved Rome. Have a great time.
Did you know that you can book a segway tour around Rome - just google it - looks like fun to me!
