Hi All,
Have just booked a week in Ballys next March for my 40th birthday and am now a bit nervous about our choice of hotel after reading some reviews on Trip Advisor. Can anyone put my mind at rest? Got a fantastic deal though so maybe I shouldn't be expecting too much!
Thanks

I've never stayed at Bally's but it's connected to Paris and both hotels are in a fantastic position mid strip.
While I also read trip advisor some of the comments you have to take with a pinch of salt - I've read some really bad reviews of even the 'swankiest' hotels.
I've stayed at 4 different hotels on the Strip and appart from the Signature MGM, which was a suite, they were much of a muchness even though they ranged in star rating.
Balley's appear to be an excellent mid range hotel and I'm positive you'll have a fantastic time - you spend so little time in the hotel room anyway.
Don't worry about it - it'll be absolutely fine.
We stayed at Ballys some years ago (before Paris) and loved it. At that time it was one of the "quieter" hotels so far as the number of slot machines go. There were quite a few around but at least there were none in the loos! LOL. We enjoyed our three day stay.

Ballys is, as mentioned previously, in a fantastic location (right opposite the Bellagio, and connected to Paris) and the rooms and whole ambience of the hotel is more 'old Vegas' i.e. less pushy than now! They have recently closed their buffet though. The pool is good, without being spectacular, but it's one of the few which has a 'deep' end - I believe it's 12 foot deep. It is going through a bit of a downturn, purely because it's had no 'theming' done to it for over a decade. However, that isn't necessarily a bad thing, so I wouldn't be too concerned about that. There are serious rumours that it may take on the "Horseshoe" brand (that the Harrahs Group acquired in a recent acquisition from Boyd's, but haven't yet re-used in Vegas) and that will probably be when the serious work on the hotel/casino will start. There are even rumours it may be imploded for that purpose. But that's nothing for you to worry about now!
If, as you say, you've got a great deal pricewise, then you've got a great deal!! Fab location, monorail station out the back, good pool, very pleasant staff. What more can one ask for? Congratulations! :)

Pleasure. I think one must take Tripadvisor comments none too literally - many seem to be posted by psychotic depressives, in all honesty. :pgig:
As I said, you'll love Bally's. It isn't the greatest hotel on The Strip, but it's far from being the worst. The staff are invariably fabulous, and you really cannot be better situated. Enjoy your stay.

Bally's really is in a great location on the strip and with the monorail station at the back of the hotel, which helps to get around, then you can't go wrong.
Have a great time. I'm quite jealous, we won't be going back to Vegas for quite a while - til the kids grow up now.

July this year will be my tenth visit!!
You're very astute, you know? ;)
Do you go to Vegas for the gambling? It's a long way to travel to hit the blackjack tables. Arent there closer places? I know there is no place like Vegas but it such a long flight :(
I'm more familiar with Atlantic City. Although I cant keep up with the changes there.

I'm English - the difference between Atlantic City & Las Vegas is about three hours on the plane!
I used to gamble a fair bit - myself & two friends first visited LA & Vegas back in '89. We were the first people we knew that had gone to the gambling capital of the world! It was better thn even we were expecting, and then my wife also fell in love with it, so we visited regularly up until '97, when our first daughter came along. We then couldn't afford to go back to the States until 2001, when we visited Florida with the girls (as it's so kid friendly). We fanxcied a change last year and went back to the West Coast & Vegas, but we were a little concerned how the girls (then aged 11 & 8) would get on with Vegas. They loved it and were very disappointed when we discussed going back to Orlando this year! So we settled on Vegas again, for 15 nights this time!
Vegas is great if you take it for what it is - it's not the cultural centre of the universe. However, you can see more shows there than practically anywhere besides NYC & ,maybe, London. The weather is, besides three months of the year, pretty much guaranteed warm to blistering ( :) ) and one can still get astonishing deals on rooms (if one's prepared to do some research).
Yeah, I love Vegas. I will, eventually, visit much more of the US (and the world) but, whilst we're still taking the girls with us, I prefer a pretty solid holiday that all of us will enjoy.
Sorry, Las Vegas Tourist Aoppreciation Society speech over and out.......
Your daughters would rather go to Vegas than Orlando? I'm stunned.
I think they are secretly learning baccarat on their 'puter. Or playing Texas hold 'em with their dolls.
At least you can always combine it with a So Cal trip to Disneyland, 6 flags, Knotts and SeaWorld, beach etc.

Havent stayed in Bally's but did visit it a few times on our trip.
Loved the place. There is a fab chinese restaurant there and it was the best chinese meal we have ever had.
Cant beat it for location.
