Sarasota or the alternatives?

Whilst in Florida we are going to go down to Sarasota for a night and spend a couple of days at the beach.

Do you think Sarasota has the nicest beach? We don't want to be driving much over 2.5 hours.

Can you recommend a really nice hotel for our night?

Is there a better alternative that I have not come across?

we are also staying in Sarasota for a couple of nights. We picked the Helmsley sandcastle at lido key. It looks good and has good reviews. It is in the virgin brochure.

If you want some alternatives then Clearwater is very nice and is a bit nearer than Sarasota, or if you don't mind driving a bit further then Fort Myers beach is very nice as well.

We've stayed at the Helmsley Sandcastle on our last two visits to Sarasorta & love the place, the Hotels in a great location right on the beach, we stayed in the Gulf View rooms which are a little pricey but worth every penny IMO as those sunsets are amazing. Your also a short drive from Siesta Key which is also worth a visit.:grin:

siesta key just a few mins from sarasota has one of americas top 10 beaches. don't know about decent hotels as we always stay at the comfort inn via priceline!

We rented a villa in Sarasota and drove to Siesta Key beaches absolutely beautiful and the sunset is amazing would definitely recommend it.:thumbs-upDebbie

Siesta Key gets my vote too!
