we have not been to universal before have always just done disney. We are not fans of roller coasters and thrill rides. we will have a 9 year old and a 17 year old with us - my question is we are considering whether to do a day at universal studios - would you recommend it for wooses like us?

Yes. There's not many thrill rides in Universal Studios, lots of shows and 3d/4d things. IoA more thrill rides but still other stuff besides too x

thats what I was thinking. Do you always get their version of the fast pass - it seems quite expensive but i guess as we are going in June/July it will be necessary?

Definitely! Universal has few thrill rides and is really good. IOA has more of the thrill rides but is still worth a wander round :)

Definitely, worth a visit especially the original park which has a good mix of rides/shows. Plus city walk has some interesting shops and eating places. But most importantly of all you can get Dippin Dots near the Jaws ride.

It is likely to be very busy, hence why the Express Passes are so expensive. You may want to consider a night in one of the Universal Hotels to get unlimited FOTL access for 2 days included. The Express Passes are only meant to be good once for each ride, though this isn't always enforced. It may work out cheaper to stay the 1 night

Universal Studios is Brilliant, One of my favourites.

There is only one Roller Coaster at US and thats the Mummy ride so you may want to avoid that. apart from that there Is Jaws and the Men in Black ride, neither of which are fast coaster types so ok for you. Then there are several 4D shows, Shrek and Terminator are both amazing. always lots of things going on around the streets too, look out for the Blues Brothers performing opposite the Mummy entrance.
US is a really great day out.
Islands of Adventure is a spectacular place to look at, The themeing and detail of the various 'lands' is just amazing, Its worth visiting this park just to go on 'SpiderMan' the ride. again its not a coaster so should be ok for you and its rated as the worlds number one theme park ride so dont miss it.

We all loved Universal and had a great day. My youngest hates roller coasters but she went on everything there. IOA wasn't so good for her but we still had a good day there as well.

What are Dippin Dots???

They're little balls of flavoured ice cream that you buy in tubs, and in the middle of a hot days theme parking they really hit the spot. They're about the only thing me, my DW and 2DD's all agree on.

Universal is my fave park. Been AP holders for about 5 or 6 years now, they know how to look after pass holders. £50/year for both parks, free parking and discounts, early mornings, loads more.
Myself and DS go into Uni while DW goes watch a Movie, we can spend 3-4 hours in Curious George easily.
Never needed fast passes but we know the park inside out.
First 3 pics DS and friend in Curious George, 4th They do the best Funnel cakes. 5 watch out for the big fish:pgig:.

Not sure fast passes will be needed but we don't need them Xmas/Easter, we get in for opening and park half done by the time it starts getting busy.
The passes are only valid for 1 ride on each, that wouldn't be enough for me. Stay in Univesal hotel and they are unlimited.

US & IOA are definitely worth a visit they are our favourite parks & if you get there when the parks open express passses might not be a necessity as they dont really get busy until after 11 when we go in August. The express passes vary in price when bought in the park depending on how busy the park is, last year we turned up really late for us nearer 11.30 & we got passes for 19.99 plus tax each.

YES YES YES!! Universal is one of my fav parks. As others have mentioned it is not like IOA where there is the rollar coasters and big rides. Most of the attractions are shows/fun rides like Shrek 4D and Jaws. You will also find many shows that take place on street corners like the Blues Brothers which is a great show to watch. Universal is a great park to wonder round and you will always find something that suits your fancy.
