How did you guys choose your home resort? I know it doesn't make a huge difference overall but just like choosing which hotel to stay it its a nightmare choosing a DVC.
SS was our first choice due to age and location. DTD being our prefered choice. But having seen videos of the rooms, its the smallest with the least facilities? OKW is a good location for us with the boat to DTD and the room sizes are amazing...but its age means that its value will start to decrease a lot sooner.
The AKL resort looks amazing...despite being small...the rooms look beutiful and they fit a lot into the size. BUT...its the location...so far out from anything. We've stayed in the lodge before and it does get a tad annoying.
Looks like it will be OKW....I'll have to hope I can get one of the extended contracts.
Then again....SS is a great location....

We chose BCV simply because we just fell in love with the place. Love the location, walk to Epcot. Pool area is fab.
I know the life span of the contract isnt as long but we will be over 80 by the time it runs out anyway so it wont really bother us.

If we are in a position to buy we would either buy all at an epcot resort for the location or split between epcot resort and OKW.
Its a very personal choice as the resorts are so different. some of the resorts are more difficult than others to get into at 7 months so you have to decide where you want to stay first and foremost

I decided on BCV because of the location and Stormalong Bay. I love that it is so close to Epcot and the studios.
I have 2 trips planned for this year and both trips I am going to BCV but also to AKV and SSR - haven't had any problems booking outside my home resort (although not going at peak times). The best thing to do is to buy where you would like to stay and take it from there.

We chose SSR because at the time we bought they had an amazing offer on and it also had a longer contract period. We stayed at SSR in February and loved it, the location was fantastic  We also stayed at BCV and loved it there too
For us we go at off peak times so we just hope that if we want ti try other resorts then the availability will be there, but if not then SSR will suit us fine!

Unfortunately we have decided not to buy one but if I was it would have been AKV without a doubt. They look so fantastic - I simply fell in love with them.

We decided on OKW because it's so very similar in lay out to CBR which we love. It was also the cheapest to purchase and annual dues, we will be in our eighties when the contract runs out. We are hoping to buy some points at the Contemporary when they become available.

We were sold on the mockups of the rooms that they had at SSR for AKV.
I think it might have been the lion king decoration on the bathroom tiles that did it for me.
:p
The distance away from stuff isn't really too much of an issue really - we were at Wilderness lodge the last two times we've been anyway and thats not really close to anything much either so I don't think we'll notice much of a difference.
AKV would have been the harder resort to get into we thought so we preferred the ability to book 11 months out and have it as our home resort (plus the lion king tiles!) lol.

we choose SSR because of its location to DTD as our boys are now older and we like the piece and quiet of the resort.
if its DTD you want the location for then the ferry boat goes from OKW to there to.
How big is your family as we found SSR to have plenty of room. we have been in the studio, 1 bedroom an the 2 bedroom .

We chose Wilderness lodge villas because we had stayed at the Wilderness lodge and loved it. We have 3 young children who like to spend most time at MK too so the location helps. This may change as they get older, but we can always book for other resorts

Having never visited any of the resorts before we bought into DVC we chose OKW because the units were so much larger, the points needed were lower and the contract was cheaper so we could get more points for our money.
We've not regretted this decision and think OKW is a lovely resort.
......Looks like it will be OKW....I'll have to hope I can get one of the extended contracts.....
If you buy resale you'll more than likely get one of the older contracts but if you buy through Disney you'll get an extended contract. I'll be 80 when our contract expires so the extra years aren't important to me.
Hi,
We also chose Wilderness Lodge for similar reasons.
We've stayed there before and it remains a special place for us.
Didn't like SSR as a resort and the DTD location isn't for us.
OKW had big rooms but looked a little tired and location didn't suit us.
AKL seemed too far away from anything else

I loved the look of AKL but it just seemed too far away from everything.

I wouldn't buy SSR or OKW simply because you can always book into these 2 resorts at 7months, so you are getting no benefit of the 11 month window. We chose the Boardwalk as I just love the location and have always wanted to stay there, and so far I am very happy with that decision.

LOL...you only have to read through this thread to realise how tricky a decision it is.
Have you seen the you tube video of the 1 beds in the current AKL building? They have some really really nice touches including the addition of a subtle Lion King theme which I thought they missed a trick with in the normal/original rooms. Shame its just too far out.

We bought two resale contracs.
One at BCV because we like the atmosphere and it's next to my favorite park- Epcot.
The other contract is at VWL, as the setting is brilliant and we love the boat journey over to MK.

We felt exactly the same and after our last trip to BWV,Vero beach and Animal Kingdom Lodgewe know we made the right decision-you cant beat a walk over to Epcot for a quick drink in the Rose and Crown:)As they say -location,location,location!When we walked in BWV we couldn't believe we were there-it was so elegant and "luxurious".We didnt get this feeling from AKL,although it was nice enough

If I were buying then Id pick either BWV or BCV. Those are the only two Id be interested in staying at. AKL does nothing for me and I find SSR a bit out on its own. I quite like OKW so that would probably be my third choice.

I liked the look and styling of SSR as well ats its location next to DTD.
For us golfers its a massive bonus having the LBV course on site.
I will look to stay at others which will mainly be Boardwalk Villas and OKWR.
Does anyone know if its difficult to secure a 2 Bed at Boardwalk during june if you book 7 months out.

Totally agree with Claire!
We took the tour of SSR in 2006 and signed up straight away as they were offering such a good deal! The proximity to DTD was what really sold it to us and we love the peacefulness of the Resort! We plan on trying all the other Resorts, but if i was told i could only ever stay at SSR i would be more than happy as it is such a beautiful place!

It is certainly easier to book SSR/OKW at 7 months but not always - I was checking out SSR for new year but there is nothing available - waitlist only. I have a room on cash reservation at the moment and have to call back in June to switch to points (from BCV) - even then it will be waitlisted according to the CM.
So - if you plan on going peak times then the home resort really does matter.

We bought at the VWL because it just felt nice. With it being one of the smaller resorts, it's much harder to stay there, especially at Christmas as we have found out. I managed to get in at OKW at the 7 month window but even that was close.
I do like the BCV location too, but the BWV for the lesser points is appealing too.

Hi,
We are hoping to buy in July/August this year, and neither DH and I could agree where to buy!! So we have decided to split the contract and look for 2 resale contracts at 2 different resorts, he'll choose one I'll choose another. ;)
Dh has chosen VWL, I on the other-hand can't decide?????????? No change there then!! I think I'll go for either BCV or BWV though, as both are in walking distance to Epoct, plus BCV has storm a long bay, which the kids loved.
If it was just my choice I would go for AKL as it's my favourite hotel, I don't mind that it's further away, I just love the theming. I feel to buy this with VWL though would be too similar? May change my mind by the time we have the funds to buy!! :d:
Have to agree about how hard it is to choose a resort, I've bought houses with less agonising!!

We bought BCV as we love the resort itself. The location was a bonus. Then when AKV became available we bought there too as it's just an incredible place.
Who cares how far away it is from everything else, when you get giraffes and zebras walking past your balcony :D

We bought SSR without even seeing the resort as the offer at the time was so good. Our first stay with developers points was at BCV and we just fell in love with it, particularly the short walk to Epcot and DHS, so we added on at the first opportunity.
We do enjoy staying at SSR and it is great for the spa and walking over to DTD. We also added on at AKV as it's another lovely resort although more remote.
Disney are so clever that every one has something special to offer. If you buy at your most favourite I'm sure you will eventually get to stay at them all or add more points lol,
Dawn
We are Boardwalk owners. We love the location and the "hotel" style gives a buzz to the place. We enjoy sitting on the boardwalk sipping coffee or having breakfast and people watching. However, our DD owns at SSR and loves it there as it has a much quieter ambience. My DH and I have stayed at both and still prefer BWV.
And we were not impressed by the food arrangements at SSR.

We have bought AKV and cant wait to stay there when it opens, I dont think I will mind it been so far out, as someone said zebras outside the window in the morning. :)
How do you buy into other resorts that arent on sale anymore? and is this any cheaper??
