We are staying at Port Orleans French Quarter in June 2008. I have read a lot of mixed reviews about cleanliness and also the noise of air conditioning unit. Has anyone been recently and can advise on their own experience.
Have also read that refillable mugs are only worth it if you intend on eating a lot at resort - can anyone please advise?
Thanks

We just got back (and stayed there this time last year too).
It'll be a bit hotter when you go, but the rooms are well shielded from the sun and the a/c didn't come on at night when we were there - it is quite noisy but it goes on and off depending on the temp you set, it doesn't run all the time.
The rooms also have a ceiling fan and if you set that the blow upwards it doesn't cause a draught. The only slightly irritating thing is the you can't vary the fan speed and it does run quite fast, but it's all but silent.
The rooms were perfectly clean and well maintained.
DW & I didn't get refillable mugs, but got one for our DD. I'm sure it soon pays for itself.

thanks for your reply.
Hope you don't mind me asking but how long did it take you on the bus to get to MK?

We stayed there about 3 years ago and really really liked it. I don't remember any issue with the AC being noisy, but we may well have turned it off at night, once the room is cool it should stay that way as long as the doors/windows are closed.
We did get a refillable mug, which we used for early morning/late night coffee and hot chocolate - we had a room near the food court so it was easy to pop over and fill it up, if we;d been further away I might not have bothered. We just got one cup as they are quite big and DH and I were quite happy to share the coffee.
the bus to MK is pretty quick once you leave the resort, but sometimes it goes right around PO Riverside before setting off which obviously will take some time. The MK bus is able to go a different route that you can't drive so it's quicker than it would be in the car. (It goes up past Ft. Wilderness)
Like Bev - a big fan of POFQ and rate it above POR and CBR - the other moderates I've stayed at.
Can't remember any problems with either cleanliness or the air-con but I'm not one to go on holiday and look for issues whereas some other folk seem to be hell bent or finding something wrong. Each to their own...
It's a lovely resort - you'll have a great time.

We really enjoyed our stay there, no issues with cleanliness or noise from aircon or anything else. We'd have been too tired to notice after long days at the parks!
We didn't get mugs as we had a split stay that trip and didn't think we'd use them enough, but we've had them at other resorts and thought they were great value. If I was staying more than a few days I'd get them again. We loved having a drink while we waited for the bus in the morning and then bringing a hot chocolate back to our room at night, we didn't just use them when we ate at the resort.
It's a lovely resort, probably our favourite of all the ones we've seen, hope you love it too!

I agree with this is totally worth it, especially if, as lodsapixiedust says you are there for more than a few days
DGF and I were there last October and I would say that it was a little dusty, which upset her allergies, but if you have the problem and mention it then they will make sure that any issues are addressed

We stopped at POR and went across to FQ quite a bit for food. We really liked their foodcourt. I thought it was a fab resort and I am sure you will love it.

I don't know an exact time but they will be running early enough for you to get anywhere you need to go, I think they start about an hour before the first time anyone would need to be at a park, so either an hour before EMH or an hour before the earliest ADR

Hi, we stayed at the port orleons in Sept 07, it was great, perfectly clean, the ceiling fan meant we could turn off the air con, and the room stayed cool.
mousekeeping was excellent, we had tons of disney soaps and shampoos that we brought home as pressies for the whole neighbourhood. ;)
the boat ride to DTD was so relaxing, we did it most nights as parking in DTD has become a nightmare in recent years., the ride back to resort was fun in the dark and the light of the lamposts at the rsort was soooo romantic.
this year , due to incresed costs we are staying off property in Kissimmee, but if we could afford a disney resort, we would go back to PO FQ in a heartbeat.
hope this helps, christine.

thanks to everyone for replying.
On our arrival, the time we pick up our car and check in at hotel i think it will be about 8.00pm. We have decided to try and get something to eat and then go to bed and get a good nights sleep:zzz:!! I have read that FQ do a pizza delivery service, can anyone advise if this is true and also if so are the pizza's any good?

You're right about the route, but the MK bus is separate one from POR and it only picks up from POFQ (there's only one stop) and then goes directly to MK. They tend to drive pretty steadily but it can't be more than 10 mins or so, 15 at most.
The other parks have shared buses, however we only tended to use them first thing in the morning and then, as they were fairly full at POFQ they didn't go around POR. Dropping off, they call at POFQ first. So this year, in 9 days, we didn't once go around the POR loop (which last year we did several times and it was a bit of a pain as there are 4 stops).

There is one, I have no idea how good it is. The food court is open to some extent until quite late. POFQ is compact, so, whichever room you are in, you won't be more than 3-4 mins from the food court.
One tip - when you get there, don't unload the car before you check in. There's a car park across from the main building where you park to check-in. Then you'll be directed to park near to your room once it's allocated.
We did the pizza once and it was OK and did the job.
But be warned that there is no human alive, with any history in pizza, who thinks WDW pizza is any good. It is universally damned by those from New York and the surrounding areas - and they should know!

As other have said - pretty early. Last year we got a bus to MK at 6.30AM intending to walk to Contemporary for breakfast at Chef Mickey at 7AM, but we told the driver where we were going and he took us right there, so we were there at 6.45.

So did you carry the mugs around with you all day? Must admit that I wouldn't do that, but then we won't even carry water around, we just buy it as we need it.

No we couldn't be assed with that either. I'd fetch drinks in the morning and the evening. Like I was some sort of mule.

Grin, I know the feeling there, BT,DT,GTTS. Love the pun by the way, even if it was unintentional ("assed" ... "mule" :) )
A couple of points: the room-delivery pizzas are sent over from the POR food court for the whole Port Orleans resort. As has been mentioned, no pizzas from anywhere in WDW are regarded as real delicacies, but quite edible I gather from my DW and DSiL who like those sort of things.
Personally, we tend to arrive & drop the bags off at the Bell Services desk outside the main doors first. Then I deal with the check in paperwork while the others go and sort out a bite to eat at the food court if we're hungry - the food court at FQ is just opposite the registration area, you can't miss it.
After we've eaten, I get Bell Services to take the bags to the room while I drive the car round to the nearest parking area. You can always unload your bags yourself once you've moved the car, but we're usually tired after the flight and it's much easier to simply let someone else do it (more so with POR to be fair, as the walk can be longer).
As has been said, the refillable mugs are great for anytime drinks, not just for with meals. Pop over to the food court to get a drink for sitting by the poolside, night-time hot chocolate, coffee in the morning, etc. They usually pay for themselves anyway, and are cute souvenirs too.

we stayed at POFQ last year & when we arrived our room was dirty & as the resort was fully booked we werent able to move so someone came over to clean it but mousekeeping is a bit hit & miss here (I dont remember it being a problem at CBR). It still wasnt up to scratch & the next day they came in for a thorough clean & washed the carpets. One thing though watch out for the connecting rooms, if you have a noisy family next door it will be hell & we eventually moved rooms a few days later & went to a different block where mousekeeping was a definite improvement & all was quiet & peaceful.

We stayed at POFQ for 3 weeks last september/october, and really enjoyed our stay. I loved the size of the resort, we were in building 6 and it was a 5 minute walk to the foodcourt/bus stops. Our room was clean and serviced well. We ate at the foodcourt several times and never had a bad meal, and we had good luck with the buses, never having to wait more than 15 minutes for a bus.

We have just come back and yes the aircon can be noisy but it did not stop all 4 of us sleeping at night.
Lets face it the mugs are $12.99
Thats about £7.00
A cup of coffee or soft drink each day for a week and you are in profit
