Havent yet paid for meals on the plane as I dont know if its worth the £20 each they are asking. I have always taken nibbles etc with me. A friend told me she never pays and has always had a meal as they dont seem to question whether you've paid. As there are 6 of us going it will cost £120 extra which is a lot if they dont eat them.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Last time we chose to forego the meal on the plane, they sat everyone who wasn't having a meal in the back so many rows so they knew who wasn't eating.

We always go Virgin so food/drink is included - wouldn't pay that much for a meal though!!:wavey:

Things must have changed from last year to this :confused2 we flew with them last May and all the food and soft drinks were included. Flying with TCD this year and same again all included, also booked with TCD for next June and we have everything included again plus guarentee of all 8 of us sitting together all for no extra charge  Dont think we would be paying £20 per head seems expensive x

I really do not think it is worth anywhere near £20. Better food can be purchased air side and brought on the plane, cheaper and better quality. WE flew TC once in their equivalent of PE, and the food was still poor.

Just an update, phoned skybargains to check how much the meals would be and they said as there was no provision on the form for it to be added it must be included!!!! So we are now not sure whether they are or not.

Its states on the Thomas cook website that if your flight is booked three months before the depature day, an inflight meal is included. Hope this helps :)

We flew with Monarch and didn't take the meal option which kept the cost down to £99 return. However they still fed us but certainly wasn't worth £20 but you can't compain when it's free!

We are going to turkey in july and had the same thought as there is 5 of us!

We have a 5 yr old with us though and our thoughts were if everyone else is eating them around us and she can smell them, will she start creating because she likes the look of it.
We are flying with Virgin to Florida a few weeks later and food and drink are included on that flight.

On shorthaul flights (turkey, cyprus, lanzarote and fuerteventura) I've never paid for a meal but have always been given one, even when I've told the CC that I haven't paid! Always fly scheduled longhaul (virgin generally) and so have food and drink included.

I've never eaten a meal (or even two) on a plane that was worth £20. It all depends if you want a hot meal on a nine hour flight or if snacks etc. will do.

I had the impression that generally a meal was included in the advertised prices of the flights, but you have the option to opt out of this if you wished. I know when we have flown short haul in the past some of the travel agents have given us the option at the booking stage, but I think that's just down to the agent you get.

Wouldn't have been when you were flying with XL.com (Excel) by chance would it ? :)
This is a common occurrence with them - though on some flights they have stopped doing this now - can't remember if its flight codes ending in 'V' or without the 'V' when they serve free meals (regardless of whether you've paid). :confused2

No don't think so. IIRC we were on Mytravel planes (MYT flight codes?!?) for Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Can't remember what the others were but they weren't XL, will have to see if the dbf remembers (it was a couple of years ago to be fair so things may have changed since then)
