New PC came today, god do i hate Vista.........I don't like change.
I have a speedtouch modem and I just cant work out how to set it so I don't have to keep connecting by specifically clicking on "speedtouch conection"

If I just load IE I want it to connect like before! I can't seem to make it save my password either, i've been trying since half 12 today to set all this up and all i want to do is throw it out the window.

Back on the old pc today. The new one now can't connect to the internet. It keeps telling me the hardware ID of my speedtouch modem is not recognised.
I'm about to throw itall out the window. Been 24 hours now and i've got nowhere.

It could be a drivers problem with Vista. Try going to your isp's website and download the vista drivers for the modem.

YES! it was the drivers.managed to connect.
Now all I need to do is solve how on earth to conect the pc upstairs.........have a cable going from it to this one but just cannot get it to connect to the net.
Decided that getting new pc's is a nightmare not worth causing really.

Check the settings in Control Panel/Network and Sharing, and the firewall settings on the vista machine.

I guess you had it working before ?

Make sure Network Discovery, and file and printer sharing are checked.

A quick way is to turn off the firewall, see if it can connect.

Worked just fine when we had the old machine downstairs and the oldest machine upstairs.

Now this new one is here the one upstairs just can't connect. I have a small pc icon on the taskbar but it calls it "unidentified network"

Tried turning off the firewall and no difference............all the file sharing things are set to on.

Try running the network wizard in Network and Sharing Centre

Start/Network

You will probably have to check the settings on the xp machine as well, as it will recognise a new network machine

There is a good thread here h**p.forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/543000-vista-xp-network.html
with other links included that give good solutions and suggestions

A much better way of running a network, and more secure.

Good choice
