Ryan Air are doing free flights at the moment, so i'm thinking of taking advantage of it and booking a few days away, and i've been thinking of Stockholm as i want to go to a place that i wouldn't neccessarily go to otherwise, and that one caught my eye on the list of free places. Has anyone on here been? If so, what do you recommend doing and where should i stay?
Thanks! :thumbs-up
No I haven't been but I booked up with the 1p flights with Ryanair for January! My colleague at work has been lots of times and she says its worth it so I'm looking forward to it!

I was there 2 weeks ago. A beautiful city but be warned it is very very expensive. 70 Crowns for a glass of wine (around £7). Arlanda airport is about 40 mins from the city centre. A taxi will cost about £40, however you can take the airport bus for around £18 return.
There is a City Airport but I am not certain if RyanAir will fly into that. Around this time of year it remains light for a long time (24 hours daylight further North). The Royal Palaces are beautiful and it is a lovely city to walk through. Very friendly and beautiful people. It is certainly worth a visit and if the sun is shining it is even better! I go to Stockholm quite a lot on business but I've never been socially. It is a beautiful city however but as the previous poster said it is very expensive.
I almost always stay in the same hotels when I go there and I think they are excellent. They are small hotels from a group called the Lord Nelson, The Lady Hamilton and The Victory Hotel. All full of character and in a good part of the old town, close to the palace and some excellent restaurants and bars. If you prefer your hotels as a plastic and chrome palace then these are not for you, I personally love them.
The website for the Lord Nelson is here with links to the Lady Hamilton and Victory.

Yes, although it was a few years back and it was very very expensive then. I was back in Scandanavia (Stavanger) last year and it is even more expensive that I remembered!

Be careful with Ryanair and 'Stockholm' It's not quite in the city.
I used to fly to Stockholm (Arlanda) 20 mins by train to central stockholm.
I then used to get a train for 1.5 hours south to a SAAB warehouse.
The ryanair 'stockholm' airport was nearby!. It's over 100Km from the city it serves!!!
So the carhire or train will add to you cost and travel time quite a bit.

We liked Stockholm and stayed there over an easter period which was good. A scenic city with quite a bit to do. We flew with SAS and got the Arlanda Express which I must say is the best airport-train link i've caught anywhere in the world. We stayed right near the Arlanda Express station in a hotel called Nordic Sea if i remember rightly. Great hotel with well furnished rooms. It is expensive so keep away from the beer. The only downside I personally noticed was the amount of homeless people around. If the flights are cheap I'd go for it. We also loved Copenhagen which I thought was better than Stockholm

I've being eyeing up those ryan air flights too :-) I had a look on the tourist info and it looks really great- not sure how kids would find it though. Problem I had was finding a hotel cheap enough! It's the kind of place you'd like to have lovely meals and sip some chilled wine...but on my budget it would have to be a mcdonalds and a milkshake...!!!

Funnily enough I booked 2p flights to Ireland yesterday, but now looking at hotel prices, it doesn't look like we will be able to go. It's all very well getting the flights for free but if the hotels are through the roof then it's no good. After all the trips to Orlando, I was thinking I'd be able to find really reasonable hotels but there doesn't seem to be much under £100/night
