After reading great reviews about this we left feeling a little disappointed and poorer, lol. For 4 of us the total including tip was $106 for breakfast. Then $32 for the picture and i forgot the girls autograph books and that was another $32:omg:The food was ok and tbh we have had better buffets offsite. The character interaction was very poor and each character stopped very briefly for a pic and left. Even when they announced the napkin swing the characters were not playing along. I definitely would not book this again and hope when we go to CP later this week that it was as good as last time. I hope anyone going soon has a better time than we did at Chef Mickeys. Definitely a big thumbs down from us:(

Oh I'm so sorry you were disappointed. That doesn't sound right at all. I'm not sure why the characters weren't playing along.:confused2
We have been twice and always had fab interaction. Hope CP is better for you.

Sorry you didn't have a good time. When we went last time it was absolutely fantastic. Hope you have a great time at CP.

We have been quite a few times to CM and have always enjoyed it, sorry that you didn't. We don't have the photos done though and we always buy autograph books anyway.
The character breakfasts are pretty expensive for what they are but if we've had a good breakfast we only have a snack at lunch then dinner in the evening.

Very sorry that you were disappointed and had such a negative experience
Hopefully CP will be much better.
We were also somewhat disappointed the last time we went. The whole place seemed so frantic and it was difficult to get food and interact with the characters. I have to agree that it is expensive and the photos are expensive too.
Our DD (10) has voted this as a "no" this trip - we will be going to Cape May Cafe instead - which we love. Much more laid back and the buffett is wonderful. Again not cheap but IMHO whorth it - much more so than Chef Mickey's
Thats ashame you were disappointed, hope CP lives up to your expectations!! We have booked CP for December, it'll be our first ever character meal so I'll be interested what you think :)

we had breakfast there in 2005 and although we enjoyed it, we found it pretty rushed and frantic and the characters literally just stopped for a pic and that was that. Food was good though. Still I'm not sure wether to have it on our list for next trip or not or wether to go back to cape may cafe as the breakfast there was fab and the characters spent loads of time with the kids as it is not so busy and rushed.
Sorry that you had a disappointing experience. We enjoy Chef Mickey's but I must say that I never rate breakfasts as being as good as lunch or dinner in any of the restaurants. We always prefer to grab something light (toast or something) before heading to the parks, or go for a Dennys or IHOP or similar. You just get more for your money for lunch or dinner.

Oh Frances sorry to here that it wasn't as good as expected. We really wanted to book for dinner there before the MVMCP but we couldn't get a time that suited but we have booked for another day instead. I hope that dinner will be better than your breakfast experience.
Did your girls enjoys it from their point of view though? I know sometimes I feel that I look at the value of something on how "I" see it ie the cost for what you get. But the kids might absolutely love it?
I'm going to try this year and concentrate on if the kids are smiling and happy then its a success -even though we may be hundred of $$$$ out of pocket! Well thats the theory anyway! LOL

It was not really the money. We all know that the character meals are expensive. We done a few last year and all were fantastic. So I was expecting the same from Chef Mickeys. Youngest DD was searching around the room for the characters at napkin twirl and they were not around. As I said it was a brief one flash of your camers flash and they were gone:( We went to breakfast with Elmo at seaworld the other day and the food was ok. The character interaction was fantastic. That is what i am looking for at a character meal:) My youngest was up twirling around with zoe, hugging Elmo, the cookie monster ect and they stayed for ages, played with the kids and so far the best character meal we have had:) Like you i want the kids to be happy and smile. At chef mickeys we sat down at 7.35 and our bill was on the table at 7.45:omg: It was very rushed and not worth the $106 for us.

Well that part about the bill is just not acceptable at all!!:nonono: That would make me feel rushed and uncomfortable from the start.

We went to Chef Mickeys a couple of weeks ago and we didn't enjoy it either! The characters hardly spent any time at our table, one of them missed one of my 3 children out completely. We also found that the food was cold and unappetizing. We have been before and had a great time but this didn't live up to expectations. We still left a 20% tip though - not sure why!

Oh well from that point of view then I certainly wouldn't be happy either! End of the day everyone pays the same amount so equal time should be spent with each table as far I see it. Obviously I haven't been yet but I hope that this isn't the case when we go or I will be tempted to cancel any other Character meals.
Fortunately our first Character meal is our first morning at Crystal Palace and i really hope this is fantastic as I have booked it again for my little one's 3rd Birthday dinner in our second week! Fingers crossed you have a better time at Crystal Palace though.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday!

We have never done a Character Meal and have booked Chef Mickeys this year for our 2nd Day. Both DH's werent really that keen but us wives have told them it will be great! I really hope we are right.
The kids have told everyone that they are having breakfast with Mickey so I hope this doesnt disappoint them.

Sorry to hear it was such a dissapointment, we went a few years ago and have said it was one of the best. Not sure I will recommend it to others now, hope they sort it out soon
We are going to Chef Mickys later this year. My girls have asked to return there as they really enjoyed the experience last time - curiously they do not want a meal with the Princesses - they have done that!

Having read lots and lots of positive reviews for Chef Mickeys we have an ADR for dinner on our first day at the MK on 7 July. I'm really downheartened to hear that standards appear to have slipped recently. After reading the recent reviews, I had a look on Youtube last night and to be honest it wasn't really what I was expecting.
I'm now seriously thinking about cancelling. My DD is 7 and very, very quiet. The scenes on Youtube looked a bit like a chaotic school canteen and I'm concerned that without proper character interaction she will be completely overwhelmed. She will happily twirl a napkin in the air if Minnie or Mickey does it but wild horses wouldn't drag her from her seat into a seething mass of excited children jumping around between the tables.
Am I creating a picture in my head which is not representative of a typical Chef Mickey's dinner experience? Can anyone tell me whether dinner is any more subdued than breakfast?
I just want this to be perfect for DD (7) and DS (4).

We've been twice for breakfast, last time our DD was 6. We did some napkin waving at the table but that was all. Character's came to the tables. We are booked again this year for dinner. I wouldn't worry, I'm sure your kids will enjoy it.
Sorry you didn't enjoy it Frances, that's such a shame. Hopefully CP will be much better :) I must admit although I thought the food was pretty good (especially the mashed potato lol) I wasn't overkeen on the whole experience, I much preferred the CP for atmosphere.

I don't want to put you off, we had a great meal at Chef Mickey's a couple of years ago with loads of character interaction. I think the OP and I were there at about the same time so it may have just been a bad day, maybe there had been some sort of upset in the staffroom and the characters were not feeling motivated.

We have this booked for our first morning on our coming trip so keeping fingers and everything crossed it was just a 1 off bad day they had.
I am going with an open mind and so long as a smile reaches their faces I will be happy.
