Celebrating 30 Delicious Years
This year marks The Cheesecake Factory's 30th Anniversary. After all this time, The Cheesecake Factory still feels like a family-owned business. In fact, years before the first restaurant opened back in 1978, CEO and founder David Overton's father and mother, Oscar and Evelyn Overton, moved to California - spending their life savings - to open their cheesecake bakery called The Cheesecake Factory. The bakery offered twelve varieties of creative cheesecake flavors.
The Overtons sold their cheesecakes to restaurants throughout Los Angeles, but felt that restaurants didn't appreciate the quality of their cakes. In response, David opened the first restaurant in Beverly Hills to prove not only that a restaurant could offer a large dessert menu, but also that guests would actually come to love it. Today, the cakes are legendary, and so is the restaurant.
For many people, cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory is the new American standard. People now expect the smooth and creamy texture we achieve in our recipes over the traditional New York recipe, which is much denser. Ours is hand-crafted to melt in your mouth.
