View Full Version : Who needs the Kitchen Sink? Look at this....
We went to a pub in a local village yesterday for a meal for DD Sam's 18th. They've renovated the pub and also the menu, and for dessert we shared this wonderful creation:
http://i29.tinypic.com/3499vr9.jpg
It's called CurlyWurly Mega Thingy Sundae! :pgig:
It has choc ice cream, vanilla ice cream, cream-filled profiteroles, choc fudge cake, raspberry and choc sauce, and it comes covered in fresh cream, but we aren't keen on a lot of cream, so had it without, and they topped it off with mini-donuts, lol. :tounge:
Four of us shared it, but couldn't finish it, it was absolutely gorgeous though, a true competitor for the Kitchen Sink! :d:
So, if you're Cheshire, you can get a little taste of the USA's large portions, as their meals are huge too! :D
That looks great - a bit of a drive for me though!

:tounge:yummy that looks soooooo good, havn't had the kitchen sink yet but will certainly be going to try it this year, i am sure my lovely daughter and I could just about eat one:pgig::pgig:

the landlord of this pub will be wondering where all this extra custom has come from :pgig:
Mulan - we're in Bramhall, whereabouts are you?
Jan - I would say an hours travelling is well worth it! :d:
Cal and Dave - I will have to start asking for commission! ;)
That looks yummy, not sure it's worth the 4 and half hours drive to get one.:grin::grin:

Mulan - we're in Bramhall, whereabouts are you?
We live in Handforth so not far from you at all.
weve had one similar to that at a local family pub by us
Mulan - oh you're just down the road, I go to Total Fitness in Handforth, and also the Tesco/M&S. Small World! :d:

Me too, though I haven't been to the gym in over a year. I may have seen you at Tesco lol.
I haven't been to the gym for a few months either, lol! The money they're making out of us for nothing! ;) We may have bumped trolleys at some point! :pgig:

Is it a Hungry Horse pub? They tend to do this sort of desert and have huge American portions.
No it's not a Hungry Horse pud, it's not part of a chain at all I don't think, just privately owned.

In my opinion that's probably better than the kitchen sink - I'm not too fond on peanut butter!
Its looks very nice i must say. Was it expensive?

Jane - I don't blame you, I would drive 3 hours for it too! :d:
Sarahcat and Lesley Jane - Poynton is 5 miles south of Stockport, about half an hours drive from Altrincham I would think.
Vickie - I don't like peanut butter either - YUK!!
Claire - it was £5.99 which I thought was good value as it was dessert for the 4 of us. :tounge:

I like the look of that one, but the Kitchen Sink nearly always makes me feel nauseous:confused2

As it is my birthday on Wednesday I think a trip to Poynton might be on the cards. Do they do food at lunchtime as well as dinner time? I think lunch would be easier for us.

That looks delicious Mazzy!
Sue - it's near the canal, um I would need to look at the road names, I think it might come under Adlington. If you're not sure where I mean, let me know, and I'll find a map with directions on.
Sara - Yes they serve food all day I think. You might be best booking a table as I imagine it would be even busier than normal now they've revamped the place. Let me know if you want the 'phone number. We went at 4pm (after school) and it was nearly empty, but lunchtime and evenings are busy.

I think that is a standard offering in most 'hungry horse' pubs, if that helps anyone!

I want one of them.
Sue - it's not far from Lyme Park at all, I would say about 10-15 mins drive if you stick to the main road. There is a cut through but it's not easy to explain where it is, so best to stick to the main road. You would come out of Lyme Park, turn left go right down until you get to the Rising Sun (on the left) then turn left and it's about 5 or so mins drive up that main road to Poynton, then about another 5 mins drive to the pub.
Shepherdypie - it CAN be for one person, lol, depends on how big your tummy is! ;) My DH saw a man eat a whole one himself, so it has been done! :d:
That actually looks a lot nicer than the Kitchen Sink to me.
Ohhh, we live in Stockport and I was wondering where DH could take me for tea tomorrow. Now I know!! (although he will try to argue for the Nawwab Indian Buffet as he always does  Men!!)
Sue - hi, not seen you around for a while, I remember you, you have the hotel don't you? Ignore your DH and get on the 'phone and book now, lol! ;)
That looks absolutely scrummy mmmmmmmmmmmmmm:thumbs-up

You can walk to Lyme Park from the Miners....not sure of the way though and I remember it involving a hill, you come out at the top car park.
The walk down the canal there is lovely too.
I am another Miners Arms fan, although I haven't had that desert the chips are fab!

It's such a shame I don't particularly like icecream . . . . could eat all the other stuff no problem, though;)
Hope Sam enjoyed her 18th :spin:
Hi Annie - how can you not like ice-cream? ;) Yes thanks Sam had a great 18th, she especially enjoyed her party the following day with all her friends. :d:
