Hi This may be a silly question but how much can you spend in Florida and bring back without paying duty/taxes when you arrive back in the UK.

Thanks:pgig:

I think it is £149 per person or there abouts, Think everyone goes over this though, I know we do by far!

Yes it is £149 per person, we always bring way more than that back.
You just have to risk it at customs.

This year my DH brought an I-Pod touch & some Bose speakers for the I-pod, which alone came to about £400.00.
We also brought the usual lot of trainers, perfume,Dvd's,PS3 games etc etc.

I've never seen anyone at customs in the UK but there's always the first time.

£145 I believe.

A lot of folk returning from Florida blow this limit and very few will get "caught" going through the green channel. There are far bigger (and dodgier) fish to fry than Disney fans.

If your buying electricals, clothing, footwear I would advise that you remove all labels, get rid of packaging etc.. Makes it look like its not necessarily brand new!! However, i'm sure customs aren't that stupid to not know that we all bring back waaaayyyyy too much!

You mentioned you bought an I-Pod Touch, would you mind telling me how much you paid for it and did you get it from Florida Mall? My dad is interested in getting one.

Thanks so much

one tip we were given last time was to take all tickets/tags of new items, leave boxes out their too and screw up all clothes even new ones so they look worn ;):tounge:

I'm one of those rare people who go through the Red channel (I would lose my job if caught), and it really has been quite painless in the past. Please don't judge me as a goody-two-shoes!!!

I must admit to not declaring every last item, but usually have at least £500 to declare and the most I have ever been charged is £18. The customs officers are very good at reducing the duty as much as they can, and very often they say its not worth their while!

Last Nov they said that it would not be fair to charge me, seeing as I was the only one from the whole plane who actually went through the Red. They dont search bags, I just give them a handwritten list and offer receipts (which they never look at - phew!).

So if you want peace of mind on the flight home, try it.

Just got my Which? magazine this month and it states that from December you will be allowed to bring back 430 euros into the EU from outside the EU zone (£338 at current exchange rates). Doesn't give the date in December though.:thumbs-up

We are the same as both DH and I work for the Government.

I used to work very closely with Customs and know for a fact that they don't only look out for the "big crims" and normal travellers get caught too.

But, at the end of the day, it's up to you whether you are prepared to take the chance.

If you do go through the red channel and declare how much are you charged? Is it vat on the amount you are over your £145 limit?

We are thinking about getting a Bose system which over here is around the £1000 mark.

And am I correct in thinking that you can reclaim (over here) taxes that you've been charged there/
