We have used Vero Beach as our Home Resort, on our new (fingers crossed) DVC purchase (still to go through ROFR, but feeling POSITIVE:P1x1e_Dust:)
We will often stay here I think, as an add on to WDW, as we like the idea of a more traditional beach holiday, as well as the razzamatazz of WDW.
Can anyone who has been to Vero Beach, tell me more about the surrounding area and things to do, places to eat, etc. I think this thread should help quite a few people, as I can see a few are planning to go soon as well.:wavey::wavey::wavey:
Excited!!!!

Ceri,
I can't help you with what Vero Beach area is like but youre decision has got us talking in our house! :)
We are looking to buy into DVC. We would do it now if we didn't have 3 other holidays to pay for before then lol. Your idea of buying VB is intreaging. I'm not sure what price you bid at but VB is available at $50 a point on resale at the moment. Now if you think that new points at th Contemporary Villas may be coming out at 110..you could be staying at Bay Lake Tower for less than 1/2 the cost of the new owners. All you need to worry about is the availablity. I know the VB upkeep is more expensive but it has certainly got us thinking :)
How many points did you go for in the end if you don't mind me asking?

We only got 75 points, as we could not really afford to go every year, although if we do find ourselves doing thus, we will add-on in a few years.;)
We see it as being able to go every 18 months - 2 years - this would give us 150 points, which will allow us 10 days - 2 weeks at OKW/AKV/VB/BWV in a studio. We shall of course, bank and borrow points, but I didn't want too many points, in view of the fact if you don't bank them and use them in the next use year, they are gone.
We are paying $60 per point. The advertised price was $62, but the offer was accepted within a couple of hours. Yes, the dues are higher for VB, but as we only have a few points, it works out fine for us.:wavey: We are looking forward to taking our first ttrip home, as a beach side to a WDW holiday will be really nice.:D
We knew we wanted to re-visit WDW a few times in the next few years and the Vero Beach contracts seem so reasonable, that it made sense to pay £2600 (inc. closing costs and dues), for 34 years of possible vacations!!!
As we only travel in September/October/November time, I am not too worried by the 7 month window for other WDW resorts.:wavey:
We like Vero Beach as it is very relaxing. There isn't a lot to do just around the resort but you can go into Vero itself and there are information sheets when you check in with events etc. The 'Driftwood Inn' is worth a visit.

Great - we love it nice and quiet and enjoy walks and nature trails, which there seem to be a lot of in that area, according to the local websites...any other nice places to visit????:wavey:
Is there things like Denny's for breakfast, as I hear Vero's food is quite pricey:confused2 don't mind doing breakfast out and maybe eating in once or twice, but would like to sample a few local places too.:wavey:
A short drive into Vero itself and these are available. The resort is actually on Orchid Island (all on the same road that links the islands). Vero is a small place but has shops and restaurants. It is cheaper to buy inexpensive beach stuff yourself than hire it from the resort. Sometimes people leave items behind for others to use - new polystyrene coolers, boogie boards etc in the car park under the resort, rather than take them home.

Hi Cerisa:wavey:
So you finally took the plunge, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it all goes through quickly and smoothly for you.
On our trips to Vero we've not really tried out any of the local restaurants we have normally eaten on site or used the Take Out Pizza place that is only a short walk down the road. We also make a trip (or several) to the large Walmart a short drive away. We go there with the intention of nipping in and picking up a few breakfast items so we can prepare and have breakfast in the room, several hours later and $$$s lighter we emerge. :D
Loa is right about people passing beach items on, we have done that several times and have also had much use out of other peoples donations.
The Cast Members at Vero are very good at organising daily events and activates for the children which I'm sure yours will enjoy. They also have, weather permitting a sing song around the camp fire in the evenings (which the children enjoy).
Keep us all posted on your progress.
Vero beach was the first Disney resort we ever went in, on our way to visit friends down the coast. I insist we at least call in for lunch when we go.
The prices are really good for vero beach, I am looking into buying DVC however I don't intend to stay at Vero beach though not sure if it worth buying just for the 7 month window.
