:wavey:hi
we are going to new york in october and we may have time to fit in a broadway show.
what is the dress code?
will we have to get dressed up or will we be ok in jeans and trainers etc.
as we dont really take dress clothes and shoes on holiday.
we like to be comfortable.
any help would be really appreciated.
thanks:wavey:

Jeans and trainers will be fine, I think. I certainly didn't dress up to the nines!
We saw Mamma Mia on Broadway, it was a matinee performance and we were planning on walking around afterwards.
We just wore smart casual (trousers not jeans and tidy tops not sweatshirts, comfy shoes rather than trainers).
We fitted right in because we saw folks wearing all kinds, from one older lady in a fur stole to younger people in jeans & trainers!
I would imagine that the dress code might possibly be a bit smarter for evenings but if you've ever attended a show in the West End then I would be guided by similar styles and standards.
Don't stress about it though, just relax and have a great time!

We went to see the Lion King on broadway. Went to the matinee and wore jeans with comfy shoes. No problems at all. Would watch it again and again, totally loved it.

I was surprised how casual most people were dressed when we saw an evening performance of 39 Steps last month on Broadway. I had linen trousers and a nice silk blouse and felt quite dressed-up compared with those around me.

I've only been to NYC once, but no-one seemed to dress up for the theatre, any more than they do in the UK these days.
Wear whatever you'd like. Some theaters have the a/c on high (or heat on low) so bring something if you feel cold easily.

We've been to see a few shows on Broadway - all excellent. We tend to wear smart casual in the evening and whatever to matinees. Hoping to see Legally Blonde in August.

Smart casual is the way i'd think.....unless you go to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Then it's a basque and stockings and suspenders.:erm:

We are just back and there were Legally Blonde tickets available at the TKS booth most days.

Thanks Lyn! :)
We didn't go to see it last year as the tickets were over $300 each and that's way too much for us!! Really want to see it this time though.

At the moment many shows are $55 for the next 2 weeks. Legally Blonde is one of them.
Before you leave check the usual discount sites to see what prices they offer. If its low enough purchase ahead of time. Save time waiting in line although it's still in the Marriott where its air conditioned. You can use the SSS location for matinees the day before. Less lines there for evening performances too.
I've stopped using TKTS there is only so much calypso music I can stand with temps in the 90s (or 20s) waiting and waiting.
