It dosn't matter if the kids are in school or out.

We stayed at the Poly a few years ago and it was fantastic (as are all Disney hotels;)).
We booked thru www.dreamsunlimited.com - an excellent service, reasonable rates which they regularly check for any discounts (AA etc).
I stayed in the Boardwalk Inn back in May 2007 and then again for a short stay in December 2007 - have a look at the trip reports in my signature, particularly May 2007, there's lots of piccies :)
Have also stayed at the Yacht Club (directly opposite, on the other side of the lake) which was great also but not my favourite Epcot/Boardwalk resort.
The Boardwalk Inn is a lovely resort, TBH some of the rooms can be hit or miss location wise. If you book a water view room at the Boardwalk Inn you'll get a Boardwalk view.
Standard view rooms overlook the pretty interior courtyard garden (only accessible by the hotel), or, and this can be the hit or miss bit, the front of the resort where the buses/cars come in, or the Epcot side road. There is quite a bit of noise from the side road, and in December we ended up with a room here, thankfully they moved us!
The Boardwalk Inn only has about 350 rooms so is a lovely size resort, it's very, very pretty and as it's small the staff seem to be a cut above some of the other resorts I've stayed at.
For info Virgin Holidays are now offering the Boardwalk Inn. I book via Val on the Dibb - if you have look under the Dibb advertisers, she's there under Travel Counsellors. If anyone can get you a deal, it's Val :)

The Poly is lovely and if you use the buses there is far less stops than using the Boardwalk buses which stop at 5 resorts!
To the OP, I think really the best thing is to either do a split stay, so you get the best of both worlds, or stay at the resort nearest the parks you're going to spend the most time. If you're going to be spending most of your time in Epcot or HS, then stay in a Boardwalk/Epcot resort hotel so you can walk, or if you're spending most of the time at the MK then the Poly will fit the bill.

We only stopped at 2 - it picked us up at the Boardwalk, then went to the Swan and Dolphin :)

Hi,
We stayed at the Poly last year in Oct (trip report link in signature), and are returning there again this year. We found this to be a great hotel and the location is perfect for both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot due to the close proximity of the Ticket and Transportaion Center (we stayed in the Tahiti building which is about 3 mins walk to the TTC). From here you can get the monorail direct to MK or Epcot, or the ferry to MK. Plus as many bus routes as you'd ever need.
Have a look at http://tikiman2001.homestead.com/ for all things poly related.
No matter where you stay you'll have a great time though.

Hi i do not know of any discounts but we always stay at Poly now because it is fantastic. Its on the main monorail system so close to everything and good bus transport. they have lovely restaurants and fantastic pool and beach areas. We always find it good value and would never go anywhere else now. x x x

I don't think you can look beyond the Poly, luxury hotel, great location, a Walt conceived original, everything about it is truly perfect.
