I have just booked my holiday to Cuba staying at Cayo Coco staying at the NH Krystal Laguna. Has anyone ever been and can they advise me about excursions etc and is the area nice? I really want to see Havana and swim with dolphins!

I am going in May for two weeks, flying with Thomas Cook, so if anyone has experience of them long haul too I would be interested in any reviews.

thanks!

Did you know its only 94 miles from the tip of the Florida keys to Cuba! There cannot be a huge amount in the difference in weather surely??

Hi LisaMouse

We went to Cuba last June. We did a 2 centre, stopped in Holguin in the south for 10 days and then to Havana for 3 nights. Holguin was very much your normal beach holiday, food wasn't brilliant and to be honest I was a bit bored - have come to the conclusion I shouldn't do beach holidays!

Havana if you get the chance go - it's a real eye opener. I would strongly recommend a tour in a classic car-you get to see all the sights as Havana is massive and really spread out. Tropicana whilst very commercial/touristy I thought was really great - even my other half was impressed and he thought it so wouldn't be his thing. Also watching the sun go down over the Malceon or crossing the river and going upto one of the forts with their nightly cannon ceremony gave an excellent view of the city.

We stopped at a NH hotel the parque central and it was a brilliant hotel, really good breakfast and excellent service, but not very cuban. It had a roof top pool and excellent views over the

Try and get out and see the country we did a jeep safari and it was a real eye opener to see the towns and how people live.

Go with an open mind and you'll enjoy it.

Thanks Sally! I actually think there are two NH hotels in Cuba, I think I am in the different one to you as mine is on Cayo Coco.

I really want to do an overnight trip to Havana though!

Hya. We stayed at Cayo Guilermo and loved it. The sea is just gorgeous and the people are so freindly. We done a few trips -A jungle tour where we were driven around real cuba, taken to aligator farms, sugar plantations etc all in an old army truck. It was great fun. We also went to Jamaica for the day. We climbed the Dunes River Falls, wennt to montego bay and the markets. It was a long day and not that cheap either but it was a great day out.

A tip I would give you is to check with your bank or credit card company that they have no connections with an american bank. if they do then they want accept it in cuba. It may surprise you that some cards that you think dont have any connection, actually do.
