Hi we where there in March this year for Easter it was quite cold but you really felt it when at Battery Park as the wind cut right through you, but we bought scarves and gloves for a few dollars, food prices depends on where you are eating, but there where plenty of pizza, chicken, wrap places where we ate for under $40 for the 4 of us incl soft drinks, it really isn't that expensive to eat, we stayed at Radio City Apartments on west 49th street great location very central for most tourist things, as for a 4yr old M&M world should keep them happy for a time and the toy stores, plus the lights at night, the ferry ride would also I'm sure impress them
A few websites to scan. Also there are toy stores like FAO, World of Disney, etc
Carriage ride in CP. There is a small zoo in CP. Planetarium show. Imax.

Food prices vary plus they have all the standard chain restaurants.
March was cold this year.
I read reviews on TA for Park Central. No a/c in 100 degree weather!! Prices for the hotel are high. Find somewhere else.

Hello
has anyone been in march? - Yes, and as mentioned above it was FREEZING so make sure to take lots of layers. It also snowed when I was there.
which are the best hotels for location and price? I stayed in the hotel Edison which was right on times sq. I didn’t explore any other options as this was perfect for us.
has anyone stayed at the park central hotel? looks good but as usual tripadvisor slates it. NO
what are food prices like? With the £ to $ exchange rate you should be able to eat out reasonably. It all depends what you want - a subway or a steak!!
other than the zoos, is there much for a 4 yr old? I would say that riding on the ferry over the statue of liberty would be fun. Apart from that I would Google "New York for kids". I am sure there are lots of things to keep little ones amused.

We are also planning on visiting New York next year.
When is it usually best to book, in advance or last minute? We are looking to stay for roughly 5 nights but the prices I'm finding at the moment are nearly £700 per person for February. Is this normal?
Any advice much appreciated!

I haven't been to NY either, but while researching info for a (hopefully) trip next April I found this link. http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2737284-b-1-new_york_city_things_to_do-i;_ylt=Av43sRDrqdcjGUqTqzBgWnGcFmoL It has tons of interesting info on attractions in Ny and the surrounding areas.

Hi
We stayed at the Park Central the first time we went to NY, first impressions are good with the lobby but then I have to admit you get up to the room and they were a bit dated (they may have been done up by now though!) It's right up by Carnegie Hall and obviously Central Park, so it's quite a walk from Times Square and you'd need to catch a cab to Empire State and Macy's etc.

which are the best hotels for location and price? We always stay near Times Square as it's nice and central. There are fairly reasonably priced hotels located here too.
has anyone stayed at the park central hotel? looks good but as usual tripadvisor slates it I haven't personally, but my friend stayed there a couple of years ago and said it was quite basic but okay for what she wanted.
what are food prices like? - Depends where you eat, but there are lots of fab places to eat that won't break the bank.
other than the zoos, is there much for a 4 yr old? Can't help with this one as have never travelled there with children.

we got our initial price from expedia and then today trawled round the agents, none of them could get anywhere near expedia... their advice was to come home and book it straight away

We stayed at the Milford Plaza in the Times Square area, great location bt the rooms were quite small.
We just went the two of us so can't help with things to occupy children, as it was our first time there we wanted to do a lot and were so tired I think if we had a child with us it would have to be a young one in a buggy.

I'm sorry. I got really excited that I would be able to do some Disney shopping while there. We also want to see either the Little Mermaid show, The Lion King or Mary Poppins. We haven't decided yet so we may end up seeing all of them if they are still playing when we go.
I found another link that I would be kind of neat. It is a free service. Local New Yorkers volunteer to show visitors around NY.

Because of the arctic weather in NYC in Feb it is a slow month so hotel rates should be low. I wouldnt book anything now unless it is fully refundable and an incredible deal.

We went in March and the weather was mixed. There has just been a big snow before we arrived and in central park it was still evident. It got warmer and warmer during our stay (rained some days though) but we had a small blizzard on our last day (still very bad snow and wind though).
I think we are the only Dibber to have done a food and culture tour but they are great (we did food of New York). Most people reccomned the coach or a taxi from the airport(JFK) but we took the subway. You get a shuttle to the station and then it is straight into the middle of town, yes it is longer but it wasn't any bother (maybe because we are used to traveling on an underground system and we have no kids but it didn't seem that bad).
