I've been looking around for car-hire prices from many firms but seem settled on either Hertz or Avis because of their locations. We are hiring the car for three days picking up in Anaheim dropping off in San Diego but there is a huge difference in the cost.

Avis is £78.69 and includes:
"Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
Unlimited mileage
Additional Liability Insurance
Tax"

Hertz is £138.57 and includes :
"THE BASE AMOUNT INCLUDES HOTEL CONCESSION FEE RECOVERY:, LOSS DAMAGE WAIVER, TAX, LIABILITY INSURANCE SUPPLEMENT, VEHICLE LICENSING COST RECOVERY:, TRANSACTION FEE, CA TOURISM COMMISSION ASSESSMENT"

I know there's a few minor extras at Hertz but otherwise they both seem the same, similar pick-up drop-off locations too, I'm sure there's something I'm not seeing :confused2.

Go to www.carrentals.co.uk
IT will find you the best prices :)

The Hertz price could include a one way drop fee. I only mention this because it states "base amount" which is often the price you will pay in the UK and then the drop fee would be payable locally.

Take another look at the Hertz quote and see if you can see a base amount price. I am guessing that should be fairly similar to the quote from Avis.

It would be worth checking with both providers about the drop fee. It's not a big distance from Anaheim to San Diego but I am sure there would be some fee involved.

BTW in my experience Hertz often come out the best out of all the car hire providers, especially in the USA.

Thanks for the help, I really can't find anywhere where it says one way drop offs. I think given the difference in cost I'll go for Avis.

Just try www.airline-network.co.uk before you book.

Once you factor in fully comprehensive insurance, they are (generally) the cheapest.
