We went to the Florida Mall and the lady asked us to try the new GHD’s, I didn’t but my sister in law did and bought some for $180, she told her they would work here with no problem But they don’t , so be careful.
Have you tried using a step down transformer (from e-bay or Maplins or the like) plus a plug adapter?
edit to add - if these are not dual voltage and you tried them in the UK without the step down transformer, you will have fried them:(

I bought mine in the Florida mall back in 2006 because my brand new british GHD's didnt work there. Mine are called CHi's, they are brilliant, granted I dont use them here, they are for my Florida trips only, but I now own a pair of mark IV's and I still just take the CHi's, as they heat up better (Sil took hers so could compare). I purchased mine from a hairdresser in the Mall not a stall holder, walked in and asked how they got their customers hair straight as a poker and that was it, bought done and dusted. Sorry your sis dont work here, the transformer should work.
