I've been told the home whitening kits in America are cheaper and stronger than the ones in the uk, has anyone bought one? What sort of price are they?

This might be a daft question but do the kits work on crowns/caps that are on your teeth ?

I'm using crest whitening strips at the moment that were shipped from the US. Just looked at the instructions and it says they will only work on natural teeth and not crowns/veneers etc. You can still use them but don't expect them to look any brighter.

redwoodysoup how long have you been using them?any change yet?
Whitening will not alter caps or crowns . If you want bright white teethe you may have to have them professionally whitened and then have the crowns replaced to match , either that or whiten to the shade of the crowns and no more iyswim ?

I would be frightened I would end up looking like Vern in Corrie on that portrait if I had a tan and my teeth whitened

Been using them for about 5 and a half days now with no problems. my teeth are definately slightly brighter now and some stains have disappeared. I was worried about them looking too bright, but they're fine at the moment and are doing well. They are pretty good for the money and at least I dont look like plonker at the moment anyway with really, really bright teeth.

I bought 2 packs of the Crest whitening strips in Maine in April, only just started using them a couple weeks ago, deffinately made a huge difference! They are brighter than normal and stains have disappeared.
Well worth the money,

Hi,
DH used the Crest ones last June ( cost about $35 ), he used them for 7 days morning and evening, they really worked well and are still white now. They were just clear plastic strips that you adhere to your upper and lower teeth for half an hour at a time then just peel off. Really simple to use.:thumbs-up
Gonna get some more when we go next time and bringing some back for a colleague too !!

hi everyone,
i'm a dental technician and a.)they don't work on crowns or bridges b.0 they're not good for your teeth , bascially whatthey do is strip a layer of enamel from your teeth , its like sanding back the top surface of wood to reveal the new stuff underneath. So you can imagine after time it will become very sensitive and as the layers underneath are very porous they soak anything up that can stain so if you used a whitening strip or bleaching tray and then had a tea or coffee straight after the staining would be unbelievable.
Hope this helps.

I agree about them making your teeth sensitive, I bought a pack of these whitening strips last year in Florida and used them when I came home, after using them for a few weeks my teeth were very sensitive as soon as I put them on, I would get a pain in my teeth and couldn't bear to leave them on for the specified time. Luckily I haven't had any pain since I stopped using them but it is a bit worrying as to what damage they have done to my teethye
