Hi
Has anybody been to the Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom or Downtown Disney?
We are planning a trip to one of these on our next visit to Orlando.
I believe that the atmosphere is great, but is the food great too? Or is there any preference between the two?
Suggestions please......... :drinkbeer :thumb:

Used both of them and these are our favourite restaurants, food is excellent, scenery is great and so is atmosphere.

Hi,
We went to the one at Downtown Disney and the surroundings were amazing. However, hubby had spare ribs and they had a really long quite thick black hair stuck to them. Apparently it was off a brush that they paint the barbecue glaze (some sort of glaze!!) on with. They offered him another one, but it had put him off his food by then, so he didn`t have anything :-( We also tried Planet Hollywood and our eldest son`s burger was raw in the middle, even though we`d asked for it to be totally cooked through with no pink etc. Thank goodness he cut it first before eating it!! When we went in 1999 we tried the Hard Rock Cafe and that had a really good atmosphere and food. This May we`re going to try Race Rock. It`s had really good write-ups on here and as we`ve got two sons (13 and nearly 12) it`ll really appeal to them, hubby too!!

Only ever tried the one at AK. Food and service excellent, theming good also.I have heard people moan about how cold it is in here, but we didnt find it a problem, they do have the air con on all the while, but so does the majority of florida..Take a thin jumper if you feel the cold.

We also ate at Planet Hollywood on our last visit and my partner Iain also had a burger and felt quite ill afterwards.
Actually he had to leave the restaurant feeling faint and sick,
needless to say we won't be making a second visit. Especially as the service was extremely poor, the waitress seemed to favour her American customers to us English.
We also didn't like the fact that the tip was added to the bill, as she didn't deserve a tip with the appalling service.
We will be trying the Hard Rock next time and our hotel is next to Race Rock so we will definitely be eating there.

Been to both and Planet Hollywood, no problems and the food On numerous visits to all the above has been wonderful, some restaurants do add the 15% servive chjarge if there 6 or over in your party. The burgers are usually made with freshly minced steak so burgers can be pink in the middle sometimes like steaks.
We've been to both locations and prefer the DD one, but only slightly, cos the service was better!
I love the Mojobones - although I woudn't have coped well with the black hair either Fiona. I always use a brush with blue hair if I'm brushing on a glaze.

Can you get brushes with small black curly hairs ???
We eat in at least one of the Rainforest Cafe's every year and love them both. We have always found the food to be excellent along with the service and of course the atmosphere is wonderful. The only thing I find is that there is a strange smell to the place (difficult to explain but slightly musty) which is a bit off-putting but I overcome it. Has anyone else ever noticed that or is it just me?
As for Planet Hollywood, we have had some wonderful meals in there over the years but hadn't eaten there for a while until last year. We were very disappointed. The place was virtually empty and had no atmosphere, the menu was very limited to how it used to be, the food we did have was not good and the service was also poor. We have made a note not to eat there again unless we hear that things have improved. I certainly wouldn't dream of recommending it to anyone on our last experience.

We ate at the Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom in 1999 and loved it. Although we had to wait about half an hour for a table, they gave us a pager and bleeped us when a table was ready. (while we were waiting we looked round the Rainforest Cafe shop). The food was excellent and there was loads of it, the service was very good and the surroundings were great!!:D

WE really love the RC - we've been to both in WDW, one in Las Vegas and one in London!!! Persoanlly I liked the DTD one better but it's a good atmosphere in each. The food we had was great - usually one of the pasta dishes - I had Rasta Pasta last time if I remember rightly!!! - huge portions and really tasty. If you like bananas don't miss out on the 'Gorillas in the Mist Cheesecake' - my absolute favourite all time dessert - I can't wait till we go in November to try it again (they don't do it in Londo for some reason!!!:mad2: )
Wasn't so impressed with Planet Hollywood - the tables are far too close together - I'm a larger lady (today's understatement!!!) - and the chap sat behind me couldn't get into his chair and we all had to shuffle around mid meal - very embarrasing!!! :nonono: I didn't enjoy the food as much either - hard to say why but just not to my liking - seemed more of a 'rip-off' than RC, if you see what I mean!!! :nonono:

The mojo bones seems to be the popular choice I've had it at the London RC and it was a good experience, but I feel that it lacked the disney build up. As in walking off picadilly circus and then in to the themed restaurant.
Loved the lightning.

Hi...we have eaten at both Rainforest cafes and found them to be awesome...Have a smoothie there...yum yum.
The DOWNTOWN DISNEY VOLCANO one is a more interesting place we found...but there semmed to be much longer waits for a table.
As for PLANET HOLLYWOOD.
We were asked to wait in the bar whilst they found us a table and many MANY drinks later...
My wifey went to ask why it had been so long (i was way toooo merry to care by then:beer:  ) only to find that they`d forgotten us.
So as for the food.....erm....my wifey says that it wasn`t up to much...but I just remember having a good time at the bar... followed by something to eat...(can`t remember what...lol.)

Love it there, we've only been the the DD one, but can't fault it, and can't wait to eat there again :)
tracyh - mojobones are a rack of slow roasted pork ribs, smothered in a spicy BBQ sauce.
Steve has kindly taken a piccie of them for me to salivate over in his trip report - Mapmans Shirt Trip Day 3 :D

About the smell. Yeah, we noticed that too. It's the Florida water thing I think. We noticed that all the water has a musty smell that's difficult to get used to, and if I remember correctly, there's always waterfalls and fountains at the Rainforest Cafe.
Rainforest Cafe is ace, went to the one in AK. Had a great time and a BIG lunch. Expect to pay a bob or two though.

just come back and finally managed to eat lunch only at the rainforest DD, dinner when we arrived at 7pm with no priority seats involved a 3 hour wait (it was Easter but even then). Apparently the one at AK is better for queues. Lunch was also a 15 minute wait (arriving at 12 noon) despite the restaurant being empty so we sat and had a drink and the very nice barman suggested it was a deliberate policy to make you wait some time at least! we were then shown to the most aweful table, right by the door, more in the shop than the restaurant, so I insisted we move to one of the multiple empty tables right inside. Made me wonder if they were trying to fob the worst tables off on the Brits (because we don't tip?) so make sure you get a good seat.

I read some of these replies before we went on our Easter trip & decided to go. I rang up & asked if I could make a PS for dinner at 8pm (after La Nouba) & was told no problem, when we got there people were being told of a 2 hour wait for a table, I gave them my name & in 10 minutes were seated in the Elephant section, so far so good, then our server came, she didn't seem interested at all and the food was mediocre at best. As for the surroundings I went the loo in the 10-minute wait we had & had a good look round & I had seen enough then. Every bodys opinion of this place will be different (we had 2 kids 8 & 6 who didn't like it either) & it's only our opinion. If you can, have a look round the restaurant first then make your mind up.
