i know this may seem a silly question but what is rope dropping time? have read about them lots:

Official park opening time or thereabouts, which is generally 9am.

official opening time or earlier if its busier. have seen it done 45 mins before official opening time

So have I - Disney check the levels arriving and to avoid congestion at the entrance often open early.
