Is this right? It is only necessary to book 1x AP and others can go for the usual UK Ultimate package? There are 2 adults and 1 child in our party and I think someone posted that 1 AP would allow DPD option for our group. If this is so is it worth investing in a AP if can only afford to make the trip once every 2 years? If so where is the best site for buying the AP and is it your experience it is always best to do it over the phone with an actual disney person? So many questions

Hi Karen :wavey:
We all have AP's now but last year it was just me so that as a group we got free parking and I bought a DDE card for $60 as we were doing lots of Disney Dining that trip and within days I'd broken even to what a normal 14 day ultimate would have cost me.
So yes just one AP is often a good thing to have along with a DDE card if your party plan on eating a few meals at Disney.
HTH
Meant to say bought direct from Disney by phoning then when I renewed it I just went to guest realtions over there this year.

I've read that with the DDE all transactions will have an 18% gratuity added on. Surely this doesn't work out as economical if it gives you 20% off then automatically adds on 18% for gratuity. Does this apply to counter service too as that seems a lot per transaction.

It would not be on counter service.

But you can't use DDE at many Counter service places - only really the food courts at the values and POFQ.
The 18% tip added on actually makes things a lot simpler for us ( bearing in mind expected tipping in the US is 15-20% anyway ) as we don't have to worry trying to work out what we should be tipping as it just gets added to the bill.
We saved $748.47c last time using the DDE card. :D
That was a party of 8 adults.....$60 well spent in my opinion

Yes that's right these days Cath, basically the DDE discount equates to the tip we don'y pay tip on top now that the 18% is automatically added. I guess it got complicated before and servers lost out when people were working out the gratuity on the discounted bill rather than on the original value? DDE can't be used at counter service anyway just table service.

It's good value if you're going to eat a lot of table service meals then. We only tend to do a couple per trip and have counter service for lunch then have our main meals off site so I don't think it'd work out saving much for us.
