We are hoping to get to see the shuttle launch in may next year but where is the best place to see the launch??

I have seen a few posts about cocoa beach ? does it matter where you are on the beach?

And is the traffic really bad after the launch when trying to get back to disney?

Thank you for any help and advice given :thumbs-up

Titusville is best. You can park up on the grass...you need to get there at least 3 hours before hand. Take binoculars for a better view. It takes a while to get back out of the area so have a cold box of water etc with you. We watched a landing Xmas 2006...the sonic boom made your kidneys shake!!! A great experience and a good atmosphere, too.

I am hoping that it gets moved a couple of days back as have booked Discovery cove for the 15th....what do you think the chance of that is?

I know that Dc will change the date once but dont want to unless I really have to but dh will kill me if he misses it and ds1 would as well.

It is a new date I think do they normally stay the same????????

We saw Discovery take off on 31st May this year and it was amazing. We spent the day at Cocoa Beach and saw it from there. I wish we had of been a bit closer to KSC but the atmosphere at the beach was great. The traffic is a nightmare afterwards though so be prepared to hang around for a while.

We also saw the launch in May this year from Cocoa Beach, we had a good view of the launch, the only thing that spoilt the day was the three hour journey back !

It was great wasn't it! We jumped in the car as soon as the shuttle disappeared from sight but still got stuck in loads of traffic on the way home. Well worth it though. :spin:

Oooh thats interesting, i would love to see a shuttle launch!! When we were there in 1993 there was a launch scheduled while we were there, so we went to see it. We paid over $100 fpr 1 night at the HoJo in Titusville & could actually see the launchpad from the pool deck. We got up at the crack of dawn & everyone was waiting on the pool deck with camera, camcorders at the ready. when the time for launch came everyone was really exited & filming etc... Then
NOTHING.... An American guy had a radio & said it had been cancelled 3 seconds from lift-off!! We were absolutely gutted & now refer to the event as the shuttle launch that wasnt!!
DS saw one when he was on his honeymoon over there, lucky sod!! I will definately be going if we are there when 1 goes up, we were told the best place to view was the causway bridge over Indian river. We saw it when we went to KSC & there are parking spaces all the way along the bridge & road, although i think you would have to get there really early to get parked.
We are thinking of having a few days on the coast next year so maybe we could tie it in with that!!

When DS saw a launch while on his honeymoon, he & DDIL bought tickets to see the launch at the KSC. They stood outside the information centre & watched the launch from there.
