This will be our 2nd trip to Orlando and planning to have a few days away from the parks (not "doing" Disney either so have more flexibility)
It sounds like Clearwater is a good place to visit, I had initally looked at day trips but it sounds like a long time in a bus and I get travel sick :confused2 DBF does not mind driving but would be good to know how long it takes to get there (staying near Davenport) and how easy it is to find/park etc.
Once there is it fairly easy to track down boat trips? looking for deep sea fishing for DBF & DS and the dolphin trip for myself & DD.
Are there any websites where I can have a look at these trips to compare times/cost etc.
Thank you
We went by coach back in 04, I can't remeber how long it took to get there- but the journey didn't seem to bad at all, DS gets travel sick , but he was fine with tablets.
The boats are easy to spot, the harbour/jetty is at the end of the main shopping street, can't really miss it.
can't remember who we booked with, but if you do a search on google for day trips from Orlando, you should find loads of companies to compare. We have used gator tours and viator in the past - but can't remember for what :)
Just found this site with lots of trips listed
http://www.clearwatertours.com/tours/tourDetail.cfm?tour_id=6406
the sea screamer site is just www.seascreamer.com

Are there public beaches there? I'd imagine there are, but when we took a drive over last year we must have took a wrong turn somewhere and spent about an hour hitting nothing but private beaches and homes.
We gave up in the end and drove back to Kissimmee in our swim gear and sad faces :(

We were there last month and also stayed in Davenport, took about 80 minutes to drive and two good size parking areas to choose from one at the marina and one at the beach (both across the road from each other).
Plenty of boat trip choices at the marina (dolphins, paragliding, pirate's etc)
Nice food at Crabby's.
Lovely day all in.

Thanks for all the info. Struggling to find out about fishing trips - other than bus tours from Orlando and chartering your own boat - a bit pricey for 2
Anyone been on a fishing trip direct from Clearwater

We drove down at Easter for the day. We went over the Sunshine skyway bridge, it was incredible and a highlight of our holiday.
Loved Clearwater, went on the Seascreamer and had a lovely meal at Crabby Bill's. In the evening we walked along the pier and looked at all the trader's stalls (a lot of it was trashy but Florida-type trashy is strangely acceptable, weird,i know!! ). We'd definitely go there again and explore some more of the coast.

Yeah, we took the Hummer down for the day last year. While it was only a day trip the beach was unreal and a wonderful experience throughout. Will probably book a few days down there next year.

We do this every time when we go to Clearwater, a bit of a detour to get back to Orlando but well worth it.
We are planning a day at Clearwater when we go am I right in saying its about a 90minute drive from Kissimee ?
It is about 90 minutes depending on your speed! There are lots of rangers out there ;)
Clearwater is lovely. The only place I've ever paddled in the sea where it's like taking a warm bath. Every other country we've visited the sea always seems much colder.
Have any coeliacs visited Clearwater? Just wondered if we could eat out rather than taking a picnic?
We stayed 1 night in Clearwater Beach on our last trip and then went straight to BG in the morning, it is a beautiful place. Lots of boats can be hired for fishing, 2 speedboats you can go out on (Dolphins play in their wake), jetskis (sorry waveriders), pirate ship. Also lovely public beach, the gulf of mexico was so warm in August that it felt like you were getting into a bath, lots of food places.
Just a wonderful place and a great change from Disney :D
Go for it!
