Can anyone tell me how you get to feed the dolphins at Sea World.
Do you have to pay for it, or book it etc.
Thank You xxx

Watch out for the seagull though - our DD patiently waited fish in out stretched hand to feed Flipper only to have one of these flying rats swoop down and snatch the fish out of her hand!
The look on her face was hilarious :d:

Also, I would say the best time to do this is first thing in the morning when they are hungry and very active. It is great fun and I can't wait to go again - you will love it!

Its at the dolphin pool behind the stingrays (is it in the Ket West area?)
Its lovely to do but get there early for the feeding session as it gets very crowded and you wont get near !!!

They have set feeding times, you queue up at the kiosk to buy your fish then you are allowed into the feeding area at one end of the dolphin pool. The queues get very long and the area is not under cover so avoid it in the hottest part of the day or you will get sunburnt. First thing is the best time for hungry dolphins and shorter queues.

You can only get close to the dolphins if you pay for some fish now. They only have certain feeding times, and let so many in at a time. It's a total rip off!!!!! You were able to go to the dolphin pool and feed them if you wanted to, or just have a look. Not now though.

You have to q at the feeding kiosk,$7 per trya of food.
You can only go up one for the food so make sure you buy what you wish too feed them:)
THey now have the feeding area sectioned off from the normal viewing area.

Seaword have a dolphin experience that you can book on the website - perhaps a better idea to get up close? I am considering this as 2 of my 3 kids a re too young to swim at discovery cove.

Bear in mind though they only sell a set amount of food so that the dolphins arent overfed.
From what we saw last month the food went quickly.

A bit harsh calling it a rip off. Before they changed their method of doing the dolphin interaction they still only sold a certain amount of fish and at certain times. You can also still go and have a look when you like, but you won't necessarily get any interaction from the dolphins. That is unless the staff around the pool decide that its playtime for the pesky little dolphins. Then they get the toys out for them. I was impressed with this as previously i've not seen them do this. It actually increases your chance of an interaction without having to pay for food. If they dolphins are feeling particularly boisterous they will play fetch with you, bring you a ball to throw for them. Be warned though, don't wind them up with the ball - you will pay!!!!

We visited the dolphins whilst they were playing and had some great interaction with them. The area wasn't crowded (we must have been lucky ;)) and me and my niece must have spent at least an hour throwing the balls etc that the dolphins brought to us.
One even came up on the ledge and let us give him a good rub across his body before going back in the water. My niece loved it.
She did also feed them later that day but had to queue to buy the food. One tip I gave her once she had got the food was to go right to the other end of the sectioned off area as everyone else seemed to congregate near to where they had brought the food. She managed to feed at least 3 dolphins before running out of food and we got some nice photos and she didn't get pushed around.

I must admit i'm pleased they've changed it so that only people who are willing to pay for the food can get close to the feeding area!
The last time we went i bought trays of fish and had adults (who hadn't paid for food) physically pushing me and my then 5 year old DD out of the way the minute the Dolphins came anywhere near us! We also had adults trying to steal fish from the trays we had purchased! :nonono:
I think this is a much fairer way of doing things! :wavey:
We went on the 6 hour tour of the park (can't remember what it was called) and we got priority feeding of the stingrays, dolphins and sea lions. At the dolphin enclosure they let us in (about 12 of us) before the people paying so we had the whole area to ourselves with our fishy trays -it was great (but smelly )

That does sound like a better way of doing it as I have always found it very crowded.
I cant see why this can be seen as a rip off. Its much better to have it controlled.

If anyone has a passport membership, you get discount off the fish too. We really enjoyed feeding the dolphins last Christmas and got some lovely photos and will be doing it again this year a few times too

Best way to get lots of interaction with the Dolphins is to do the Dolphin Nursery Tour. You get to feed the dolphins as well, and you get to stroke them. Did this last year and it was really worth the extra money.
You learn a lot about dolphins, and I for one found it very informative.

Is this the one that's called the Dolphin Spotlight Tour on the Seaworld website?

When I went to Sea world last year I couldn't get near the dolphins to feed them so I fed the Rays instead, they really appreciated it. :d: :pgig:
