Walmart do rolls ( subs) but they do not tend to have sandwiches as we know them in all the shops!

Subway do nice rolls, but I wouldn't take them into the parks, the counter service places arent' that expensive and the portions are big enough to share. Apart from that, sitting down to a meal in the heat of the day is an important part of our park day.

Nooooo dont do it!!!

Most of the garages sell "sandwiches" but they are truly minging - the sell by date is usually several months away and they are literally just stuffed with preservatives. Totally horrid.

Plus, if you take sarnies in the park, believe me, within about 30 mins they will be a molten soggy mess - the heat is a killer and simply just isnt viable to bring in fresh food unless you want to drag a coolbox in as well (simply could not be bothered with that!!). You can get delish turkey or club sandwiches in the parks and they arent that dear - plus there is usually a free "fixins" bar where you can make up a lovely salad to go with it - its well under $10 for a sandwich and drink and that usually comes with chips (crisps) as well.

As above - I wouldn't bother and buy stuff there. With the exchange rate as it is, the meals are decent value and there are plenty of healthy options now.

If you're really on a budget, fill-up at on off-site buffet place for breakfast and it's likely to keep you going until dinnertime - you may only need a snack to tide you over.

In park food is (unless you goto an expensive, pre-booked restaurant) for the most part, fast food like pizza / burgers / hot dogs / chips of a low standard and NOT that cheap either. I recall pizzas, fries and drinks in TL costing the best part of $50 for 6 people and they were awful! $50 on an I-Drive restaurant gets you fed like royalty.

Best tip?
If you can, make your own 'subs' or buy the ones from Publix / WalMart.
Wrap them in clingfilm
Freeze some bottles of water over night
Put the wrapped subs and the frozen water in a cool bag
Go to the park and rent a locker - leave the cool bag in there.

When you're hungry, go back and get your bag and enjoy the food and refreshing, ice cold water. Fast food in park is OK every now and again but it's not something we'd want to do everyday and it is costly compared to the quality & quantity you get.

Sorry Elsie, cant agree :D

Here is an example - Turkey Wrap from Peco Bills MK (has a HUGE Fixins bar so free salad as well) inc fries or apple slices -$7.59. These things are HUGE and if you have had a big breakfast, easily shareable.

Or Chicken Salad bowl $7.19 ($5.19 without chicken).

Yes, you'll pay a small premium to eat in the parks but I dont think those prices unreasonable - especially when a pre packed sarnie from Marks in the UK will cost you £3!!

Sorry Elsie, cant agree :D
That's OK

We don't eat in the parks (at least not often) and prefer to take our own stuff or eat at restaurants outside. That's just us!

I'm with Rusty - we rarely if ever eat pizza, burgers or hot dogs, in fact I don't think I have ever had pizza or a hot dog and maybe once a burger, in 6 holidays eating at a counter service probably every day.

We normally pay around $25 for our family of 4, we often share meals as portions are large. We eat things like clam chowder & tuna sandwiches, chinese food, grilled chicken, noodles. A quick look at a few menus will turn up loads of different options.

I agree with Bev and Allie. never found the prices to be bad in the parks. Yes it is slightly more expensive than from outside, but it hasn't sweated and been boiled in you bag!

Its got to be a sandwich from the Publix deli!!! They are the best going!
The only downside is I dont know how well they would keep as they are made fresh.
The other one is to take bread and ham and cheese or something separatly and make up the sarnie when you are ready.

I always eat in the parks. There is a good variety of food and not that expensive.

If you do want sandwiches they do sell them in the 7-Eleven, but I've never had any, so couldn't comment on how nice they are.

Think the park prices are very reasonable and loads of choice love the salads at columbia harbour house at MK and the nachos and tacos at mexico in Epcot I woudn't fancy carrying food round all day on the rides and its nice to sit down and have a rest while your're eating lunch or dinner

I agree with you Elsie, I would rather bring my own food in a coolbox if I am having fast food, other wise we would pay extra and have a table service meal.

I find something very different about American bread. We have made some sandwiches in the past to take with us on a day trip - much healthier than Mc D's.

Publix has bags generally hanging at the till or at the end of an isle (on the side) that is a hot/cold bag. They keep food better and I would recommend using one of these bags if you aren't doing a soft cooler. The bag would also drop down in a back pack easier too. I would also ask for condiment packs (or grab them from other fast food places when you are there) in lieu of having it put on the sandwich so that it will keep better. These are made to tolerate conditions better than a fresh condiment would endure.

I agree that the options at the park are good ones but there are those that prefer this option. Publix would be my recommendation for subs and would follow that up with Quizno's, Firehouse, Subway and Sobik's for other options. These are all sandwich shops that make to order.

**Tip: Publix will ask you if you want Boars Head meat. This is their premium meat and my personal choice. If you aren't picky about this Publix brand is very nice and costs a little less. Boars Head to me simply has a stronger flavor and has a wider range of choice.

I agree with others if you want to take in food for us its got to be Publix's sub. We take them in smallish cool bags just large enough for a sub, small ice pack and a bottle of water. when we do this its the best food we've ever eaten in the parks, when they are finished we put one bag inside the other

Walmart do a foot long sub that is massive, big enough for the 4 of us for 3.98. Villas usually have Tupperware otherwise it is cheap to buy and take a knife in the car with you and some wipes and lunch costs 50p each!

Well i was under the impression you wernt allowed to take your own sandwiches into the parks, i know they dont allow large coolboxes( the wheeled type i think). I always take a little coolbag with frozen bottles of water in, some choccy bars brought from home & then some fruit & bags of Lays crisps. Then we usually buy something from the counter service, but in future i might try taking some sandwiches with me.

Publix subs are yummy you could try there. I wouldn't take them to the parks to be honest or, if you do, eat them as soon as possible after arrival. I'm not sure they would work out any cheaper than getting a snack in the parks.

we found it so much easier to just get something in the parks-and there were 8 of us to feed!!

its too much mither to faff about making butties,(im on holiday for a start i make butties every day dont want to do it on my holiday thanks!!)or buying them and paying to rent a locker then having to walk back to it when you get hungry....not a pleasant thought with 5 hungry kids in tow!!

i find that the food service places are nowhere near as expensive as equivalent ones would be here in places lilke alton towers etc!!

We took our own sandwiches and snacks last trip and did the frozen water bottle - it worked out fine - sometimes you dont want to Q and then eat something sooo big...it did save us pennies as we only brought coffees and soft drinks. We made the sandwiches up when we ate - i have a ice box with room for plate knife and bits....we had a buggy though and the ice box fitted nicely...this time we have DDP and planning to eat in the restaurants....i would say though sometimes we had trouble finding somewhere to eat our Picnic...especially Universal (We ate on tables outside a reatuarant but it was really quiet as we had a bit of rain that day)

i wouldnt bring my own food into the parks, there is enough to carry like camera, camcorder, without the extra hassle of food as well.

Food is good valuw in the parks, reall could not be doing with having to carry food and drinks for us five in the heat etc.

Portions are good and more than value for money.......Its not the UK and I have never seen people eating there own 'picnic' in any of the parks....

I'd considered taking a subway in, but I think we'll stick to finding things in the parks. Don't really fancy a sweaty sandwich :pgig: :pgig: :pgig:

I'm dead funny with sandwiches anyway...even though I make them for my DH to take to work I can't make some for myself. I have to eat a sandwich as soon as it's made so I buy one from the shop near where I work that makes them fresh. The same is true in Florida....no way could I eat a sandwich that had been rolling round in my bag or stuck in a locker for hours......Blerch! :tounge:

agree with this these sandwiches are great, sometimes we buy them fresh at public or we make them up ourselves before we leave in the morning, either way they keep not to bad in a cool bag, mmmmmmmm

Same here! If I take one to work, I have to take all the stuff seperately and make it up. Again to do with the fear of a soggyness I think!!! :pgig: :pgig:
